I love camping here, in deep offroad canyons, to be amazed by the brightness of the Milky Way that so much of the world can't even see anymore due to light pollution.

Only other one so far is Flagstaff, AZ.

One of my favorite pieces of artwork was a gift from a friend on the board of the International Dark-Sky Association: a composite time-exposure of the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, one of my expedition destinations to visit the rock made famous by Overland Journal (from 2006). Extreme dark sky.

Good for them!

I was hoping the news release would indicate where they fall on the Bortle scale. Natural Bridges NM is the first International Dark Sky Park, and according to their web site is the only place where the NPS has found a Bortle 2 sky in the U.S.

The sky is actually BIG and full of stars, you can't even identify the satellites!!

It's funny, but on my last trip out to AB, I was thinking about how light the sky was out there compared to when I was a kid.
