I bought a similar truck (1985) in Phoenix, AZ in 1995 and drove it 2,500 to Guatemala then sold it and caught a flight home. It paid for the trip, allowed me to get way back into the highlands and meet the locals. That was my first expedition and was well worth the price of admission.
I forgot to mention, the first generation trucks with fuel injection are an excellent choice. I was able to do 70-75mph on the freeway with 33" tires and stock gearing (23-25mpg). I towed a 1981 Toyota LB 4x4 to Guatemala and still got 21mpg. I realized on the first day of the trip that the 81 outweighed my 85 and was still able to tow all the way to my destination, albeit a little bit slower.
Congratulations on your find!
