Hi guys,

I'm talking with Braid to have some custom 17*8 G ET 33 wheels made since I really like the tire options in 17" and nobody else seems to offer a 17" now. The Thor G10s in 17*8 ET 25 that I'm running on my 14 G550 are awesome but apparently no longer being made and the ET25 is a cool looking stance but maybe just a hair too aggressive... Wondering if there would be interest by others. Goal would be a sub $500 light 17*8 ET33 wheel in anthracite that would work with the OE MB bub caps.

Would others be interested in a group order? Ideal tire for the G in my opinion is BFG Ko2 in 285/70-R17 in a C load rating. Night and day difference in comfort vs my 05 running 275/70-18s E rated BFG Ko2s. Much more comfortable than stock with added sidewall!!

FYI the german GFG used to offer Braid in that 8x17 for the G. They came with the notification "Not for winter use" as the coating was unable to tolerate salt.
They no longer offer them in their shop.

I wonder why the finish doesn't hold up to salt... Its supposed to be powder coated.

Please make sure that those wheels are made for the OEM lugbolts requiring a ball type seat.....

HI Karl,

They are supposed to be setup with the ball type seat specific to the G. Additionally I had them mill these custom to make it comparable with OE cap centers. I ordered a set of 5 direct through Braid US that should be here in November (coming on the boat to save some $$).

Somewhere between 28 and 30 lbs.

Got the custom Braid Winrace S wheels for my 05 G500 today (17*8 ET25). Looks like its right at 27.5 lbs. Ball seats are installed however its looking like I'll need to run 38mm shank lugs vs the OE 45mm lugs as the seat is more shallow than the OE wheels by about 7mm. OE hub caps fit perfectly as well.

Look sweet! No 411 from Braid on the lug difference? They just expect you to be fastidious to notice, then source your own?? Braid should get an email as to levels of service...

Nothing really solution wise from Braid but I asked what was possible for future orders to make everything work with stock 45mm lugs. I sourced H&R Merc ball seat lugs in 14-1.5 37mm that should do the trick.

Custom Braid Winrace S 17*8 ET25 in anthracite milled for OE caps Mounted on my 2014 G550:

DOT Compliant
Weigh approx 27.5lbs each (~81.5lbs with tire)
TPMS sensors worked perfectly
Mercedes OE caps fit perfectly
Required 37mm Mercedes ball seat lugs as the mounting pads were more shallow than OE, sourced from H&R
Mounted on OE tire carrier with some modifications (trimmed top of mount, used 911 motorsports extensions to push the mount from the back of the truck by ~1")
VTS 18" tire carrier cover worked with some small modifications
Running BFG k02 in 34*10.5-17

I'm been running Braid WinRace T wheels for 60k+ miles without issue. Ball seat lugs, easy to find lug bolts in the required length. They're a proper motorsports wheel and Braid USA is easy to work with.
