"The Point of No Return" 33 Hours and Counting

There comes a time in every project when you have to commit. Today was the day for the roof rack. I am not a fan of irreversible mods. It was difficult enough cutting the hood for the snorkel. This was exponentially more nerve racking. I had the design in my head and knew the look I was going for would require holes penetrating the top. After staring at it for several hours and watching the progression over the last couple of days I was certain I liked the way it was shaping up. That didn't make it any easier.

A touch of Rover

I copied the brackets used in the Safety Devices racks to connect the 3 hoops. I hope to have it "completed" by this weekend...

Hey James, looking forward to the final pics of this setup. Ive contemplated this same route but could never commit to it. Looks great so far!

Killing it!

That's gonna be a nice rack / exo-cage.

I say go with satin smooth black, BUT the rough surface black could be handy for extra grip in certain situations.

Nice build! I just recently added an AEV snorkel to my Jeep MOAB. It was pretty straightforward. If I can do it anybody can. Cutting the $1700 hood was somewhat nerve-racking.

I wimped out when it came to cutting mine. Taped it all up... then couldn't bring myself to make the cut, and paid a shop to do it.

Septu, I've been a little negligent when it comes to checking in here. The rack easily supports our Eezi Awn RTT, Daisy, Brandy & I without flexing. In May I will have to add 10gal of water for a back country trip to Canyonlands. Due to the design and curvature of the tube it is even more rigid than similar racks that use straight pipe.

Here are some photos curtesy of Mark Doiron and Matt Miller from a recent trip to "The Other Side Of Nowhere".
