There are some interesting tips here for old-school repairs to wartime vehicles looking to get home from the field. While the technology of our vehicles has changed a lot, there's a surprising amount here that will look familiar.

I haven't looked at this old manual, but there were some articles in one of the British Land Rover magazines relating the improvised repairs on Defenders during Desert Storm. I recall some of the radiator fixes that included the old egg white trick, and also using a jerry can with the cap off. Pretty cool stuff.
