2008 Honda Element EX Ecamper - $22,000 (Portland)

This is a 2008 Honda Element with the desirable Ursa Minor Ecamper modification. Power is provided by a 2.4L I-VTEC engine which dives all four wheels through a 5 speed automatic transmission. The Ex trim level indicates that the car has an upgraded radio, body colored bumpers, tinted windows (I think) and a few other minor upgrades over the base model. The Ecamper modification adds a pop up tent with a mattress to the roof of the car. I will leave a link to YouTube which shows off the Ecamper. Other modifications include a Yakama roof rack, catalytic converter cover, U-Haul tow hitch and 215/70R16 Radial SST Snow-Grove studded tires on steel rims. However now that it is past April-1 the car is on its factory Honda Alloys (not curbed or scratched) and Yokohama Geolander tires. Since this is a second car for my family it is not in perfect condition. There are a few scratches on both the exterior and interior so if you are looking for a car to be judged at concourse events I would look somewhere else. Alternatively if you are a couple/family and don't care about cosmetic issues then you will surely enjoy this red paint which in my opinion in the best color that this car was shipped in.
As for other positives the Element shares a platform with the CRV and a powertrain with the CRV and Civic so it will be faultless to 150,000 thousand miles or more, and when things occasionally break parts are cheap. There are other Elements on Craigslist with over 200,000 miles advertised as driving.
While Honda's AWD is not the most advanced system with studded tires it performs faultlessly as a mountain vehicle.
The interior is clean and in good condition and there are no imperfections in the seats a common issue.
The Pop-top is also in near perfect condition with no spots that would indicate wear.
We have never exceeded the weight limit and we do not abuse the powertrain.
Maintenance has never been deferred and all oil/fluid changes have been done at Jiffy Lube.

However not everything is perfect and there are a few issues, the first of which is unlike every other car the Element only has four seatbelts but five can comfortably fit. Another issue is acceleration. As I mentioned earlier this engine and transmission was also put in the Civic where it gets the car to 60mph in 8-9's. In the Element 0-60mph is over 10's, and you will be lucky to average 25mpg. The main issue however is that with a car this age things are starting to break and it needs to go into the shop more often. Now before you click off of the posting none of these issues will leave you stranded by the side of the road waiting for a tow truck, but once a year it needs to go into the shop. Last year it was for a relay for the I-VTEC system. This year it will go in for new gas struts for the tail gate and front brake rotors and pads. In a few years it will need new tires. What I am trying to say is if you can afford to leave this car at the mechanic for a week and pay a few hundred dollars a year then it will be fine. However if you are like my family and rely on it every day then it is not for you because that is why we are selling it.
In summary if you are the type of person/people that want to enjoy car camping out in nature but you don't want to buy an overpriced Mercedes or a camper that will fall apart or a old VW van then look no further. This Honda provides everything you need for a getaway out of town with none of the downsides of the previously mentioned models.
