Buffalo National River (Erbie Area) Arkansas

I got out of town for a couple of days to visit one of my favorite fishing and camping spots in the Buffalo National River Area in Arkansas. I generally pitch a tent or bivy but thanks to Fernando @ Camping Lab I would be resting in style via the new RTT that had just arrived. The trip was especially good for water crossing this time because of allot of snow melt and rain. To get to this particular spot (semi-secret, you'll have to come fishing with me to find this one) you have to cross a couple of creeks and the Buffalo itself to get there. The end result..well you'll see

First water crossing, Cove creek, I was sitting there trying to gauge the depth when this appeared....

This girl on her horse comes out of nowhere and shows me just how deep that water was. Not very, thigh high on that horse.

Old Homestead on the Buffalo.

All in all a great short trip. Caught a couple of Brownies, nothing to write home about. I did a 6.7 mile hike that really shook out the cobwebs. The tent was fantastic, highly recommended. Hope yall enjoyed the pictures.

Been there recently, and close again this coming weekend! Great spot, for sure!

Did you say you're coming up for the group run? Sorry, I've started losing track of everyone.

Oh, and I'm curious: did you cross the Buffalo at the Erbie low-water bridge? I see where you made Cove Creek, but I'm curious how crossable the Buff looked after last week's 1.5" of rain and the previous week's snow.

Thanks!

I did cross at Erbie, it was slightly higher than cove creek but it wasnt too bad. I'm always concerned about water crossing, no lift or snorkel, if it's not swift just create a good wake and hope for the best. There were a bunch of people trapped over at the horse camp, (thats where that rider came from) since it's surrounded by water on all sides. Nobody brave enough to pull a horse trailer across. Send me the maps for the trip and I'll see if I can hook up with the group. Are yall camping at Woolum?

Good to know that Erbie was okay. That gives me some confidence moving into this weekend. I just hope Sat's rain isn't too heavy. We have plenty of water to cross.

Check here for the details.

Hope to see you out!

That's weird. I had never heard of the Buffalo until yesterday when I watched a PBS special on it. Wonderful looking place.
