Build: 2024 Ford F350 long-bed + Rossmonster Baja

A while ago, I sold my 2022 Ford F250 Tremor Flatbed with a Supertramp Flagship LT camper. A lot of folks have asked why and what my next rig will be. Well, things have progressed quite a bit, and I think it is a good time to start a build thread parallel to the actual rig being built.

The new rig

The new rig is based on a 2024 Ford F350 long bed (8') powered by the 7.3 Liter gas "Godzilla" engine. The new camper or habitat is a highly customized Rossmonster Baja. Please note that Rossmonster changed their sales model for the Baja AFTER I ordered mine and raised their prices. While still not cheap, I guess I got lucky, having ordered my new rig at the right time.

Why the Baja?

When I realized that the Supertramp rig was not what I needed, I made a long list of everything I needed from a rig. As my goal is to work full-time from the road, my power needs are quite significant. Rossmonster was the only company that made this easy. While Total Composites and their related builders and Bison would have been able to build it out as well, Rossmonster has done it already for others and their experience really came through. I am sure other builders would be able to do so as well, but I just felt in good hands at Rossmonster.

Before I settled on getting the Baja I spent a lot of time researching and evaluating my options. I seriously considered going with an OEV Hudson Bay hard-sided camper, but when I spec'd it out with all the extras I would need and wanted, the price difference was less than $10,000 between OEV and Rossmonster. Then I compared the pros and cons of each, and the fact that the Baja comes with a permanent wet bath, a pass-through into the truck cab, and lower height due to the pop-up roof, I felt it was a no-brainer and decided to go with the Baja. I also looked at the Bison campers, Total Composites, and a few others. I even considered going with a van, but the Baja won.

And before you start bashing me regarding the OEV pricing - the list pricing is favorable for the OEV. No doubt. But when you go for the add-ons + the flatbed and then still have to do a lot of after-the-fact upgrades it gets really expensive quickly. I also considered the OEV High Country, but it requires a larger truck, a super-singles conversion, and also turns expensive when you address the power needs I have and the numbers just did not match up.

Both, the truck and the Rossmonster Baja were ordered in January 2024. The truck arrived way early and I took ownership after just 66 days. The truck was dropped off at Rossmonster on August 5th, 2024. Expected delivery date towards the end of September 2024.

Here are some pictures of my truck since I had it + a link to a video tour on YouTube. I chose the gas engine for several reasons, but the main reason is that I want to take this rig down to middle and south America and the diesel situation regarding low sulfur diesel is not grand (and will not be great for the foreseeable future). I also feel like the gas engine is easier to service.

This is going to be great to watch. They had two Rössmonster Baja at the PNW Expo and both exterior and interior build quality was impressive.

Following along here and over on the Tremor forum. This will be an amazing build, no doubt, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I wasn't just a little sad that this isn't a diesel haha. I understand the reasoning behind going with a gasser and I agree with that move for your use. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

More progress. I am splitting the updates into several postings or with a bit of delay so that it is easier to follow and see what is happening. The sub-floor, insulation, and the windows have been installed. In addition, the three rear Molle panels have been mounted. Two of them will (later on) carry external storage boxes. Rossmonster also mounted the rearview mirror camera of my Wolfbox G930 Dashcam with rearview mirror below the window in the rear with the wiring nicely hidden on the inside of the camper.
