Build Balance

I'm finding that building an expo vehicle a balance between how off road capable you want and how much comfort you want. For me that balance is a truck with a pop up camper. My build is almost capable of keeping up with the jeeps, but, I don't have to be in a tent, which was getting old for me, I am finding with age comes a certain need for comfort. The monster semi based rigs just cannot go where I like to go. So having said that did others build their Expo rig based on where you want to be capable of going or was comfort your first criteria?

A mix of both.
I had a 17' bumper pull and dreaded taking it down forest service roads. Something would always fall apart on it and turning it around on a narrow muddy road was a chore.
It also was a pain to find parking while travelling and stopping for dinner. Always ended up eating at large chain restaurants that had big parking lots rather than little local restaurants in the downtowns.
It also had an aluminum frame and using it in the winter resulted in wet walls and puddles on the floor.
I tried to address all these things with the new build. May have just gone with a Capri camper had I known they existed at the time.

I too went for a combination of both. Mine is as capable as a truck/camper of this size can be. I have taken over some extremely rough terrain, yet done 1k mile days when needed, and spent months living out of it. It had to be capable as I come from both an overlanding and rockcrawling background, but a good nights sleep is important. That and be comfortable enough to spend several wet/cold days in.
