I think that your idea is just fine.

The one thing to consider is that your going to be trapped in the shop for a while trying to put something together. You might be able to find a non-running blazer for CHEAP and bolt all your parts in it over a long weekend with friends. There would be VERY little fabrication needed, everything would basically just bolt right in....

Time can be worth just as much as money....

That is a very good point. If I come across a blazer or surburban on the cheap before this gets in the shop that is exactly what will happen. I'm not holding my breath tho every thing hear is rusted to death.

Not had much time to work on the truck yet. I have collected more parts for it. also found some things to get on the way.

20 gallon aux fuel tank to mount in place of the spare tire.

I do have to figure out how i can fill both tanks from one spout. rather not cut a hole in the body to fill second tank.

I saw a y pipe in the existing fill hole on a truck once, the fill nozzle could be put into which ever tank you wanted to fill and it had a single cap.

With the holidays and work I have not really touched this project. I did get more parts to the shop the and formulate a plan. I have built a few brackets and what not in my sleepless nights. And a small collection of misc parts to use for the build. The blazer is getting drug to my house Monday. Along with the big hub 44and 14 bolt.

The parts list is this

gm corp 14 bolt 4:10 gear welded rear
SBC 350 carbed for now
Muncie sm465 4speed with hydrolic bell housing
New Proses 205 transfercase
1350 u joints
s10 blazer rear springs up front shackle in the front
63" 1/2 ton chevy springs out back
stock s10 fuel tank 20 gallons
stock cherokee fuel tank 20 gallons
fuel switch from a 87 chevy used to switch tanks and use the factory gauge
total suspension lift 6"to 8" over stock
total over all lift 9"-11" only 2-3" taller than a stock full size blazer
