Building my M101A2 with a RTT rack

Ok, so here is my deal. I have a new M101A2 that I am going to turn into my “camping” / “everything” trailer. I want to put up a nice rack to hold my new CVT RTT tent that I have. My first challenge was to determine the height since I will have an annex attached. I called CVT and got the correct height so the annex sits correctly and isn’t bunched up. Now I have to actually build the steel rack for it to sit on. I don’t want to have a fabricator build one for me because it’s going to cost as much as the tent itself. ? I also do everything myself and I love buying new tools in the process. My next thought was to find a good strong ladder rack off a truck and see if I can make that work. I figure I’m going to have to cut it down with an angle grinder and get it to sit right. That shouldn’t be too bad.
The next thing I want to do is create supports to secure the rack itself. I plan to buy steel tube posts and secure the posts on the outside of the trailer so that I can still cover the open section (with all my stuff) in case it rains. It seems most people don’t do this. I guess they don’t worry about rain. I live in Ohio so I have to worry about it. ?

I’m going to weld the posts to the rack. Here I s what I’ve found in the wild world of Craigslist to use for a rack. What do you think?

Do you think I really need to worry about rain getting inside the trailer? Should I just get waterproof plastic crates to hold my stuff?
