building the Bullet XV

Hey Steve,
Well, at least you haven't forgotten to live life ;)

Tell us about the upholstery being done, please. What sort of material ? How yacht-like, for example ?

As for the 'boring' stuff done, doesn't sound boring - any and all photos appreciated :)

Just a quick pic showing where the ceiling is, as of today, I've also installed the storage compartment doors (below the floor) & got the on-board air compressor running & installed the switch & gage in the cab (of course not in a typical spot)
found the center jump seat with storage under the seat & in the armrest, (it's being sent to me now)
I promise more soon, but bethany, rum & pineapple, bike & booze, sunshine, & scrambling for clients (as we all are now) is keeping me occupied.
The first pic shows the center 'love' ceiling complete with vinyl & indirect lighting (which you can't see yet), the perimeter is just foam padding right now, soon to be covered with a lighter vinyl as well. You can see I've held the foam back from the edges by about 3" for effect on the perimeter, but it acts as a reflecting surface in the center, for the love lighting (plus it allows the rivets to show through the vinyl around the edges, I love fasteners!)
bad pictures. ..sorry

O.K. got the roof/ ceiling on, & mounted permanently, wires pulled, oogled the love lights, & tested the whole lifting system on a specially designed inclination plane (the street in front of my home). The upholsterers will start on the softwalls in a week or two, (I've got plenty to do inside the camper now)

Are you in Eugene on that insanely steep street above Onyx St.? That 3rd photo looks really familiar, house and all.:sombrero:

That ceiling is beautiful. Now that all the pieces are starting to come together, you can really get an appreciation for the fine workmanship and amount of detail that is going into this thing. This is truly a job well done at every level. Keep teasing us with pics and updates!

to bobdog, yup, but don't tell anyone!
the bullet is being built across town in a shop i've rented.
i just like driving this 10,000 lb vehicle home for an 8 oz. sandwich!

I bet you have to winch out!!! When I lived below you a block down on Onyx, black ice meant walking home the last 2 blocks. Wow....what a small world!:victory::sombrero:

got a question for all you more seasoned with these size vehicles than I,
I expect the finish vehicle wet weight to be around 12,000 lbs, driving out some smaller roads yesterday, I saw a bridge that was obviously someones driveway, but it had a 5 ton limit sign, how often do insufficient bridges on small or dirt roads pose a problem? I've never had to even think about this with my toyota/four wheel camper combo (at 5400 lbs)

Your not even in the range of a commercial trucks yet at 6 tons. The 40-134K lbs range seems to be what concerns regulators and highway engineers.
Your smaller than many buses, delivery trucks, and pieces of farm equipment. Building bridges rated at only 5 or 10 ton is limiting.

Certainly there are damaged bridges with low limits intended to keep traffic to cars only. But typically there are truck detour signs and other notifications. I expect violating a bridge weight limit in both the U.S. and Canada is very expensive if caught.

not really, because the cables are only taking the difference between the four cylinder's loads, not the load itself, so they're only taking like 10 lbs each, (& 1/16" cable can take 500 lbs)
plus, i have turnbuckles on each run so i can always adjust after any stretch

I got the rear winch going & lifted the spare tire into place this past weekend, plus did a bunch of 'utility' work inside
you can see how the winch cable goes up & across the pulley bars, then down & around the spare.
