Well , I have been a member of this forum for about 4yrs and just now purchased my potential expedition rig .

This build will be somewhat slow , it is a daily driver and I also use most of my free time fishin' , camping etc .

Any ways ... some stock info and pics to start .

1992 Jeep Cherokee Limited - Automatic Trans. ( power options etc )

4.0L inline six engine

Factory Tow package : tranny cooler , Class III reciever

3.73 gears , both open

NP231 transfer case

Rubicon Express 3.5" lift - full spring pack in rear ( non AAL )

31x10.5r15 All terrain tires ( nokian )

Sway bar quick disco's

Gas tank skid ( factory )

That is all that comes to mind at the moment . Nothing exciting I know .

Plans for this build are similar to most expedition vehicles .

3-4 Day Expeditions for one person .

Trails will be of the 3.0 difficulty at most .

Reliability is a must obviously . Daily driven vehicle , so that must be accounted for as well .

Warm and Dry !! sleeping platform in rear . Custom passenger seat removal due to my height must be implemented .

Dual Battery setup with inverter(s) .

Well , that is a short summary of what I have planned for the Jeep . As you all know the list never ends and is always going to change .

I titled the thread " Built for BC " simply because I will be building it for the trails and enviroment/climate typically exposed to in British Columbia Canada and the surrounding Rocky Mountains .

First install includes:

CB and aux. reverse/camp lights . Stay tuned:Wow1:

Very nice. Thats a good starting platform. You already have most of the basics, minus maybe some armour for it, but very nice.
I just received the new edition of 4wheel / offroad and they have a section on the XJ's in it..the good and bad , what to look for.

Have fun with your build....:safari-rig:

have fun building it! Welcome to the XJ side! Your best friend is NAXJA.org.

Great Lakes XJ group should have a service manual for download ;) but shhhhhhh

There is so much info out there for jeeps it is overwhelming .

Every time I figure out a "plan" for something ( sleeping platform ) I find 10 other ways to do it . :)

I need to figure out a way to have 6 feet 4 inches of sleeping area .....

I think removal of the passenger front seat is needed .

PS.... I can't seem to find a " Great lakes group " on Naxja.com .

Maybe get a seat out of a 2 door XJ that can be tipped forward? Would that make enough of a difference without pulling the seat?

6'4" sleeping inside

With the removal of the back seat all I do is move the passanger seat forward and I'm able to sleep inside, all 6'4" of me. I usually sleep with the rear hatch open but when weather gets ugly I pull down t he hatch and sleep warm and dry.

Nothing exciting to update you with ... cb radio has been installed .

I will be mounting the antenna on the factory roof rack ( I will be running a separate ground wire to the chassis ) .

I found the the link(S) to the online manuals . Thanks !!

And as far as the sleeping arrangements , I would like to find a set of cloth non power seats for the driver and passenger fronts . As I don't really like the power seats , and they need replacement anyway .
Seats from a 2 door would be perfect . I would beable to flip them forward to gain some extra inches .
