Bull Bar

I own a 2015 Toyota 4Runner. Am looking for a bull bar that provides protection from animals not looks and the less it weights the better. Does anyone have a suggestion on a bull bar to purchase?

Currently our 4Runner is parked at the Marrakesh International Airport. Hope to return to Morocco in mid-March (scheduled for 2cd vaccine shot in nine days -- advantage of being 70 and living in TX) continue our travels in Morocco for two or three weeks and then ship to South Africa. Will have bull bar installed in South Africa. Plan is to drive southern Africa for 4 months or more.

We have driven Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Nepal, India, Europe, Tunisia, Europe, and Morocco mostly in 2016 - 2019. The 4Runner was a beautiful virgin until India but it is our's.

All most Bull Bars are good for is bending the front frame rails of your vehicle when you hit something. Ask you insurer if installing one may affect your policy rate if you have comp/collision as the loss ratio is much higher for vehicles with a Bull Bar installed than without.

I would suggest a very strong well built front bumper be installed long before a wimpy bull bar.

A heavy duty bumper or bull bar?

We had a number of modifications made to our 4Runner before leaving on around the world drive. I didn't have the money for a bull bar, didn't want a winch, didn't have the money for a rear bumper/spare tire storage and there were too many items ahead of a snorkel to even think about this manly looking addition to our 4Runner.

What I do know is we risked limb and life during our 5.5 month drive around Australia because we didn't have a bull or roo bar. And I don't want to make the same mistake in Africa. Again, looks mean nothing compared to function.

Heavy bumper or bull bar?

A good thing I followed up and checked out the Smartbar noted by Peter_n_Margaret. I had no idea a bull bar is illegal in Europe, India, etc. The Smarter -- not made of steel - is approved for Europe. I have sent an email to Smartbar asking if they have a bull bar for 2015 Toyota 4Runner. Will be surprised if they say "yes".
