Buying a new Tacoma Access Cab - 2.7 or 4.0? Auto or Manual?

Some sort of lost...
The auto really does feel like a slush box. Most newer transmissions can easily be tuned via computer, unfortunately I don't believe that is an option with the Tacoma. My f150 was really transformed with a custom tune that made firmer and quicker shifts, raised the shift points under load etc. Completely different truck afterward.
I have read that people really like IPT performance valve bodies for the Tacoma. Though it requires pulling the valve body and shipping it to them, plus about $600 for them to rework it. From the videos I've seen it would be worth it.
