calling all 2nd gen 4runners...

i think i'm over the 2 stages of my 4 wheeling life.

first stage as a rock crawler and second as a fast desert racer, which never really came around... lol...

now, i'm starting on the 3rd stage, which is expedition 4 wheeling.

so i searched for 2nd gen 4runners and not alot of threads came up.

my "stock" 90 4runner started with rear arb locker. when i couldnt make up this certain trail, a front tru-trac was installed and sure enough, that made the difference.

then long arm kit for the front, from a defunct company. the rear received the typical downey longer coil setup.

and when the conversion created, a marlin crawler dual transfer case setup. i thought this would be the pinnacle of a crawler rig, but i got sick and tired of bashing sheetmetal... lol...

have the typical rock sliders and trimmed out bumper for the rear. removable warn 9000 winch, which can go on either front or rear.

and since the 4runner started out as a car audio competing vehicle, i have stereo in the back, which i've been meaning to redo and trim out the wasted space.

so, any more 2nd gen owners out there?

I have a 1990 4runner, bought stock with a bad engine a month ago. Installed a 3.4 from tacoma, 2" body lift, supercharged, 1.5" ball joint spacer, heavier rear springs found at the junk yard, only have a few hundred miles on it so far.
will post pics once I upload them.

I have noticed the same thing when searching for 2nd gen 4runners.

Bomar... I completely idolize you now man... I wanted to put a 1KZ in my 1st Gen but sourcing or converting to manual made it very pricey and I WILL NOT drive an auto.

DO you have a build thread for her anywhere??? I still may put the oil burner in my truck unless re-gearing really does liven her up and give me back some milage (need to change the spedo gear also).

I also lived in Australia for some time, and I fell in love with Diesel Cruisers (75 Troupies and Utes) so I've also had the thought of running a 12HDT in a 60series with an H55 behind it and a doubler Case...Seems like you have both the trucks (sort of, I prefer my 1st Gen) I desire... congrats mate.

Cheers

Dave

No build thread b/c I bought it converted. I had just missed a 12HT 60 series and I was all bummed out but then I ran across this truck.

The only thing that I wish was different is I wanted a manual trans but the truck is awesome. The auto works greatly with the engine.

I am a fan of manual trans also but when good trucks pass in front of you, you have to make a move. Just like my 62 it was too nice of a truck not to buy it.

I am looking at putting an h55 in the 62 or just pulling it all out and going oil burner in it also.

The 1KZ is a super sweet engine. It runs and runs and runs. Great power train.
