so , no records for trans oil changes from previous owners, currently has 155k on it. took it to one of local Trans shop here in VA. their senior tech drove Montero /checked fluid and said since no previous records of trans oil been changed , it is better to leave it alone , because if I do trans fluid change I may introduces more problems/issues, such as slipping, etc,..

so not sure what do now.?

I'm no expert so I follow the recommended service in the manual. You don't wait for problems before you change your engine oil do you?

When I was a lexus tech, if an older inline 6 gs300 never had a trans service for about 100k, we wouldn't change it. Every time we did, it only took a week for the trans to go out. I don't believe it's an issue with the montero though. These trannies are rock solid

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
I've heard of this sort of thing but never on a Montero trans, I've done reverse flushes to trucks that haven't been serviced ever and only had good results. Also i've had 2 transmissions brought back to life with new fluid (because water killed them) so i'll say you're safe.

Be prepared to be shocked by the cost of the Mitsubishi fluid, and don't forget to purchase a filter as well. Unknown history on mine, but odo was 153k. Changed fluid and filter and it runs like a champ.
