well now that i am slowly getting more and more gear, i have been looking into bags to carry it, i want something durable, non synthetic. they just dont feel right to me, and they are really stiff. i like the old canvas style bags. i already use the military MOLLE system for my immideate gear, like a lense, a card, and a battery. but for my tripod, laptop, cords, chargers, everything else.

i like the Domke F2 style. its a journalist style bag. what do yuo guys think? is it a good option? or is there something better.

Neato. I need a better bag, but it's the sort of item I just wouldn't go hunting around for. Thanks for that photo. I think that sucker is cool. Velcro pockets ... now that I think of it, zippers aren't much fun when I'm trying to work fast.

All I've seen is that picture, and I like it. Found this gallery at pbase, too: http://www.pbase.com/mcschuster/domke_f2_for_ever

Update: I couldn't resist voices in my head so I bought a used Domke F2 the other day. Thanks to your thread. It's a serious upgrade from the Sundog I was using, especially in size. I don't know what to say about it other than I think it's got a really cool rugged style to it. Canvas is heavy, but it's also tough - good example of yin yang. You going to be at the Trophy?

The F2 is not a bad bag, but it depends on your needs and uses. Canon L lenses don't really fit it in well and I sold mine after just a couple trips -- too much weight to hang off one shoulder. However, with the direction my gear is heading (smaller and lighter) I may end up buying another one. To me it is a great bag for a Leica M system, but probably the wrong shape for just about anything else. Still, they are very popular and well made.

Those of us who shoot news for a living learn quickly NOT to carry everything you own on your shoulder during an assignment. Most of the time I know what I want to shoot before I get to an assignment, so all I take from the car is the smallest amount of gear I need.
The best thing you can do is to get a good Pelican type case that you can have in the trunk of your car, and a good fanny type pack that you can place a extra lens, flash and extra batteries and memory cards in, while you are working. The least amount of weight on your shoulders the better your back will feel at the end of the day and the quicker you can respond to a fast moving subject.
This setup will save your back and allow you to move without that shoulder bag throwing you off balance. Plus, all of your other gear is safe and protected when not in use.

Btw, I have worn out three of those Domke bags in the twenty-plus years of shooting, They are good bags. All of my bags shoulder straps failed after around two-years of everyday use. But, your mileage may very.
