Camp Blender

What are you guys using for a camp blender?

I'm an electrical idiot, dont know if i should pick up a 12volt unit or something to plug into my 400 convertor.

This would be used strictly for .....beverages. :elkgrin:

An inverter will work bu not a one. A blender that can deal with ice is usually a minimum of 500 watts, some are more. Inverters are not very good with motors and inductive loads so you'll need a bigger that expected inverter.

I have a manual blender which I got from REI (no flames please), its ok and it does work but you need to clamp it to something and they require a lot of effort. Just think of the end goal while you are cranking it.. margaritas...margaritas...margaritas...

I also made an air powered blender, I took the motor from a cheap harbor freight die grinder and fit it in a cheap electric blender with a quick connect on the side - it fit perfectly, it just took a couple of hose clamps to hold it. Plug it in to the mog and bingo - easy margaritas... The problem is the cheap die grinder motor takes a lot of air at 100+ psi, it'll empty my tanks really quick if the engine is not running and if you don't run an air motor hard they have very little power. I think the motor I have uses something like 7 or 9 cubic feet a minute but more expensive grinders use a lot less. Another thing to watch out for is the motor has so much torque it will crack the plastic casing.

I thought about making a 12v blender but you cannot get any decent motors and I have never heard anything good about the ones you can buy. It seems they have the same problem.

That's how they should be drunk anyway! And only from a plastic party cup.

A guy I wheel with has a 2 stroke powered one that works OK (just OK). It's noisy and really more of a novelty. Same guy has a blender base mounted to the side of his rig that he just sets the pitcher on top of and chucks up an air powered drill or die grinder (I've seen him do it with an electric impact gun too!). It works good.

The women seem to like the frozen drinks, so he's got that going for him...

No no no....you guys have it all wrong...The best margaritas are made from fresh powder snow on top of your favorite ski/snowboard mountain. :shakin:

The last time I made those was at WolfCreek, CO...which soon turned into tequila slushies when we ran out of margarita mix.

How about powering the blender from the PTO? That assumes, of course, that you have a real expedition vehicle Of lacking that, how about using your air compressor?

The folks at GSI will be happy to sell you a place to clamp your hand cranked blender. With a bit of duck tape and Red Green ingenuity, and you could transform this into a powered blender.

I have that blender it works great. Just do not fill it to the brim with ice and your ok.

We drink our magaritas on the rocks though I mostly use it for either mud slides or pina coladas!

I've got one of these- it's not as powerful as my home Waring, but it gets the job done. You have to run it a bit longer to crush the ice as well as an AC model; they show up on ebay for under $70. :sombrero: :costumed-smiley-007

For those that were with us on the Baja trip know that Wen and I use the Magic Bullet Blender (link) Yeah, it's an "as seen on TV" product, but it is lightweight, works good, and sucks low power. We got it as a wedding gift.

It works well with any power inverter.

You can get them at Linens 'n Things and other places... Maybe someone that was on the trip can post up a pic of it in use on the beach!
