Camp chairs

Hi All

Its not that I am fat or anything (70kg) but wow do I get through camp chairs!!

I have tried so many different types with the only prerequisite being they will store easily in or on a camper.

The plastic breaks. The fabric tears. Comfort level zero. And most of them are a complete eye sore. Oh for a simple high quality camp chair. I don't want something that looks like it should be in play school.

Doing a little internet browsing came across these guys in India who sell some beautifully crafted camp chairs among other things.

I have put in my order and hope that I can be comfortable around the fire at night star gazing with a beer in hand. Perhaps on second thoughts it might need to be a gin and tonic if I sit in such a nice chair:)

i like my kermit chair. It's very comfortable and sturdy. I also added the leg extensions recently and it makes the chair perfect for table sitting, although the looks of the extensions leave a lot to be desired.

ooops - I just re read your post. You already found a chair :) They look beautiful - I hope to see and hear more about it when you get it.

Well...? How do you order from them. No prices, no email response, no phone. Red flags for me. Nice stuff, but the usual hassel with overseas purchases.

Your thread, please give us an update on this company and their chairs.

Those roorkhee chairs are gorgeous... but you still have to set them up.

The kermit chairs are great, low to the ground but comfortable. They also require a bit of set-up but last a long time.

I bought a PICO chair http://www.integrityoutdoorbrands.com/directors-chairs/pico-arm-chair.htm last fall and love it due to its size and ease of set-up. It takes up almost no space and I can get it set-up in seconds. It does require some care and I recommend lubing the legs so you don't get sand in the sliding mechanisms. It is pricey when compared to the fold-up chairs, but I have gone through so many fold-ups, I can't count. This is a high quality chair and higher than the kermit, which for me is better. I am too unflexible to sit so low.

Good luck. Please post pics of the roorkhee when you get them. How much? Do they ship to USA? I would buy some for my house! They are a work of art...

I am not that hard on chairs. I find the "bag" chairs to be bad for my back and I don't like sitting in a hole. I picked up my best chair at a car show about 7 years ago. It was one of the old webbed lawn chairs. The crappy netting was replaced with seat belt material. It doesn't fall apart. Every place I take it, when I get someone sits down and doesn't want to leave.

I bought a set of Pico's when they first came out, and took one as well when I deployed to Iraq. I also motivated several friends to buy them as well. I can no longer recommend them. While they are marvelous from a design and comfort standpoint, they have an inherent build shortcoming. I have since replaced three under warranty. All of my chairs that failed, as well as most of my friend's chairs, broke in the same spot. it's an aluminum casting on the seat base in the right rear and it cracks and then splits. The warning sign is when the paint starts to flake off. I have since asked to have my Pico's replaced with the GCI Express Lounger. Unlike the Pico which is a alumimum/steel frame mix, the Express is all steel. It's slightly bigger, but an exact design copy of the Front Runner chairs. While in Guatemala with NLX, I noticed they used the Front Runner chairs, and after years of regular expedition grade abuse, have not had any issue with them, and they are quite comfortable, like the Pico.

It would be a tough sell to convince me that a chair with aluminum in the frame would be long lasting ever again.

I found the Coleman Sling Chairs to be astonishingly comfortable and supportive, so much so that I bought three, my third is the Summer Sling Chair which has a vented mesh fabric (the others have non mesh fabric).

I then got a further two for my friends whom were just discovering the joys of car camping, they also can't believe how comfortable these 'bag' chairs are!

Also have a few Crazy Creek Cradle Loungers (like the Sling-Light Camp Chair).
