Campfire in a Box

. . . I don't see any contact info on their website. . . .

I am glad you pointed that out. I am hesitant to purchase anything from a company that doesn't provide any contact information, particularly after the bad experience with the Campfire-in-a-Can Kickstarter fiasco.

Please post whatever contact info you obtain while following up on your order or from the packaging once you receive it.

On Edit:

I did find this in a google search, but can't verify its accuracy:

(435) 654-5366
Contact: John Leo Paul Iii

Let us know if the information is current.

Robert, et al: It appears Quikfire is set up to be a mfg and then distribute its product(s) through dealers which are listed on their website. Has anyone contacted any of the dealers on their list of same to see if they have inventory available for sale?

I'll try to do just that in the next day or two...

Thanks for the contact info. I called John yesterday and he told me he sold the Quikfire idea and tooling to a guy in Arizona about 2-3 years ago. He was able to point me to some contact information to Mike Brewer, the new owner. I contacted Mike yesterday via phone and Mike apologized for the delay and said it was the result of the website failing to send the notification of the order. He told me he would personally ship the Quikfire out asap and will be providing me tracking information....I'm expecting this today. Below is the contact information to Mike:

Mike Brewer
Quikfire Inc. - President
602-510-2467
gwfirewood@yahoo.com

He also appears to own this company as well which appears to be related to Quikfire: https://www.facebook.com/Firewood.GOTWOOD/

Update: I received the tracking info from Mike at Quikfire and it looks like I'll have it on Monday. In my communication with Mike and his follow thru, he appears to be a stand up guy.

WeeJeep2 - how long did it take to receive your Quikfire once you placed your order? I ordered mine on the 29th of Feb and haven't heard anything from them nor have I received anything. I don't see any contact info on their website either. I tried messaging them via PayPal but again nothing back yet.

I didn't check this thread yesterday. Looks like the trail to a person has been found. I ordered mine back when John had the company. I had called him about making a custom metal cover for me, but I think he was concerned about getting crosswise with patents on the campfire in a can, so I did my own. I was going to email him to give him a heads up on this thread, but couldn't find the contact info on the website. Keep us posted on the delivery.

My Quikfire arrived yesterday and I must say I'm pretty darn impressed. It can be cranked up to give considerably more heat than my Camp Fire In a Can and its like 1/6th the physical size. IMO a much better product, especially for those limited on space.

I also have a Camp Fire in a Can, which I love, but this smaller size is attractive. Space is always at a premium... Hum.

I just ordered a Quikfire portable campfire, which should be here in time for a trip to the Black Rock Desert the second weekend in April. I'll post a review upon my return.

Mike, the current owner of the company, was very helpful over the telephone. He is currently in the process of updating the website, but the Quikfire Facebook page is operational: https://www.facebook.com/Quikfire-by-Got-Wood-Firewood-LLC-434710689945773/. There is also a relatively recent review at http://ruggedamericangear.com/camping/quikfire-propane-campfire-review/.

I like the idea of a sheetmetal box to protect the unit/hose/regulator and to raise the fire a bit, although instead of trying to make one I think I will try to find a surplus ammo can in the appropriate size. [A 20mm ammo can might work - inside dimensions 7 3/8" w x 17 1/4" l x 14 1/16" h; outside dimensions 8 3/8" w x 18 5/8 l x 14 7/16 h.]

Quikfire can supply a fake log set for those who like the aesthetics, but Mike acknowledges that it is an expensive option and not something he advertises. My plan is to buy some "fire glass" at my local fireplace store that I can pour into the Quikfire pan for use and then store in a cloth bag for travel:

Oh, and for those looking to save space and wondering whether a 1 lb. green propane canister will work - Mike recommends a 1 gal. or larger propane bottle (i.e., the common 5 lb., 11 lb. or 20 lb. BBQ tanks). He says that the 5 lb. tank will last about 4-5 hours with a good size flame, longer if the flame is kept low. He told me that the little 1 lb. green canisters don't have enough volume/pressure to work with the regulator he supplies and the flame wouldn't last long enough to justify the space multiple 1 lb. canisters would take up vs. a single 5 lb. or 11 lb. tank. He is developing a smaller Quikfire that will work with the green canisters but can't say when that will be ready for market.

More updates later.

Something is not right with that burn rate. My Campfire-In-Can can go 6 hours on a 1lb canister. This thing actually eats up 5 lbs in the same time? That is more than a BBQ uses for 20,000 BTU.

I think Quikfire calculates burn time at a flame size/heat output similar to a "typical" wood campfire. I'll do some real-world testing when I get my unit. I'm also going to test it for myself with 1 lb. canisters. I refill mine from a 20 lb. BBQ tank which, if a 1 lb. canister will work with the Quikfire, makes that option more cost effective than laying out another $55 for a 5lb. or 11 lb. tank (I already have a pair of 20 lb. tanks, but they are too bulky to carry in/on my rig.) According to Mike at Quikfire, one of the issues with using the 1 lb. canisters, in addition to the short burn time, is that the valve tends to freeze at the flow rate needed to make a large flame. We will see - stay tuned..

The problem you might run into with the 1lb canister with that type of flow rate is freezing. My campfire in a can will occasionally freeze up if the flow rate is too high. I use a Colman product that hooks two 1 lb canisters together and the volume helps prevent freezing. I'll be interested in your testing results.

Can someone point me to this manifold that allows you to connect two 1 lb canisters together?
