Can a 90 pull a trailer?

A friend of mine just offered me his Defender 90 for 19K. It has everything on it. BUT we just built a custom trailer which weighs in at 900 pounds. The Range Rover Sport pulls it at speed but sucks at slow speed and stopping. The Defender weighs 700 pounds less than the Sport. So after that rather boring description. Should I look at the Defender 90 as a serious tow option or get my romantic head out of my ******** and look at something else?
I should add the guys in the full size section on this forum were very helpful on what large US vehciles can do but after eight land Rovers and two major trips in them, it is hard to step away. Over to you.:coffee:

Does your trailer have brakes? I pull a Chaser with my D-90 and have no problems at low speed or braking. Getting up to speed on an incline is another story, though. :sombrero:

I pulled a Conqueror Conquest behind my 90 and it was over 1000lbs.
It isn't stellar going up hill, but no LR will be.

I pull a sankey with modified axles and electric brakes. It weighs around 900lbs. Pulls just fine with a 2.8tdi. I would not pull a trailer that size without brakes behind a short wheel base, top heavy truck.

A RRS would certainly tow "better", but would be boring to drive.:sombrero:

I have seen several 90's tow trailers, one towed a pop up camper to MAR.

The specs on the Defender say it will tow 5000 pounds and 7700 in low range.

Put brakes on the trailer and a controller in the 90 and you will be fine.

I wouldn't even hesitate to use a 90 to tow even my big ************* trailer. You just have to adjust your driving, and your expectations.

I have towed loaded car trailers with a D90 without much of an issue. The brakes are better than the discos' and with the manual trans it tows quite nice in 4th.

It's a matter of perspective.

I have always though that our trailers "push" Land Rovers :sombrero:

I have towed over 3 tons on a trailer behind a 90, it was slow starting but quite steady at 60mph.

any normal trailer you wont know its there.

900 Lb trailer is no problem for a 90 - my Boler weighed around that and I towed it to MAR and Uwharrie with no issues. I've also towed a friends single axle aluminum car trailer with my 1800 lb 356 Porsche loaded on it for many trips - it was a bit slower but still comfortable. I'd try not to tow too long a trailer (maybe 16-17 ft max) but if you keep it under 2000 lbs it shouldn't be a problem.
