This thread is 1000x better than the Defender one, where people argue forever about the engine size but don't go anywhere.

Our last camping spot before arriving in Cabo Pulmo was Playa El Tecolote (free), just North of La Paz past the ferry terminal. We stayed just one afternoon and night. Nice swimming beach and it was a blast watching the Pelicans hunt and fly around the water.. pretty amazing birds and hours of entertainment!
It was Tuesday so thought it might be fairly quiet, however locals continued to fill the beach through the afternoon. The group that pulled in right beside us... I’m talking 3 feet from our bumper.. had speakers, tables, chairs, massive coolers and were making the biggest batch of ceviche I’ve ever seen. They were having tons of fun and it didn’t bother them one bit that we were right there with them. They had a great time until well after dark and then packed up and all was quiet for the night. We had a good sleep and headed into La Paz the next morning for errand day. We hit up the Chedraui for grocery and booze, found a good place to do our laundry and even found a great place to get the rig washed. 12$ for a wash and inside/outside detail... we were pretty stoked about that. They even got on top of the camper to make sure it was all clean! We then hit the road to ensure we made it to Cabo Pulmo before dark. It’s about a 2 1/2 hr drive from La Paz, with the last 10km on dirt road. It can be quite washboardy.. depending on when it was grated last. We were super excited to get back to this little dive town and spend some time in the amazing sea of cortez! ?

We spent a month in Cabo Pulmo National Park diving as much as we possibly could until the water started to cool and the north winds started to blow. It’s crazy how sudden it happens on the East Cape, it’s like Dec 1 a switch is turned and the temperature, water temps, and visibility fall. Before that happened though we had some amazing hot weather and great visibility, calm water diving. We really did get in some amazing world class diving!!! Bull sharks, whales, massive tornados of Jacks, turtles, dolphins, rays, and so many big reef fish etc etc.. it is one of our favourite spots on earth.
We had committed to a casita rental for a month before we found a way to ship our rig, so we took a break from camping ... though we both really missed our own bed in the Camp-X. That’s one of the things we love about this pop up camper, we were able to put our nice thick mattress from home in it and it makes for some pretty luxurious camping
It was great though having the casita as a home base and enjoying unlimited hot showers after our dives
We also enjoyed some hiking (the locals have done a great job building and maintaining trials) tons of beach walks and lots of hammock time. And Bird watching.. who would have thought, but man there are so many beautiful birds!
We‘ve always wanted to try free diving (at least one of us has and convinced the other to try) so we signed up for our level one AIDA certification. Wow, we are super glad we did! We have a 36ft blue water sailboat at home and hope to use some of the skills we learned when our sailing adventures continue.
We did some day trips in the CampX to the beach, which worked out awesome. If you are a diver, or just love nature, and haven’t spent time here, it should be on your bucket list for sure!

Rancho Ecologico Sol De Mayo was such an amazing stop. Set back in the Sierra Laguna mountains, the main attraction was the stunning waterfall. This little eco resort has rental cabanas and a camping area. We were one of two campers the first night and the second we were the only ones camping. It was so peaceful. They do offer breakfast if you order the night before, but due to covid their regular meal service/restaurant wasn’t available. Running water toilets and showers also available. This Rancho takes in animals that need a safe place to live..dogs, turtles, birds, donkeys, geese, rabbits.. you name it. They are all well taken care of and it was fun to see them all so happy. This place is super clean and do their best with recycling, compost etc. We loved the vibe here. The woman that was hosting (sorry forgotten her name) was very welcoming.

At 9am on a Saturday we had the place to ourselves, jumping off the rocks and enjoying the calm water. We met several day hikers on our way out but what a special treat to have this place to ourselves. So lucky!!

Hi! Yes, we stayed at Baja Bungalows in Cabo Pulmo. This was our second stay with them and highly recommend if you are looking for an old Mexico kind of feel. Lynne and Kent (the owners), and Veronica (Host) are fantastic people and very welcoming. It’s about 250m to the beach and restaurants too. Take supplies and grocery if you venture out to CP as there isn’t a ‘grocery store’. Small convenience store with a few basics at the El Caballero resaurant. The El Rey store in La Ribera, which is on the way out to Cabo Pulmo,
has groceries, beer etc.
We’ve stayed in the Palapa Suite and this time Juan’s casita. They have from simple casita to larger home for bigger groups

Hi again, thinking about this more and one thing we have chatted lots about is the fact that we only have a standard port a potty.. would like to explore a composting or cassette toilet if we could find one to fit the space in the camp-x. Loved the outdoor shower. Other than that we had no major issues with space etc living in it for 3months full time. We’ve spent over 90 nights in her this year!! Storage is always a challenge in a smaller unit, but we had our truck back seat out and converted half of that space into shelving for clothes etc. The other half was for our Snowmaster fridge/freezer. Wouldn’t have wanted to do the trip without that either. Love it!
OEV is looking at a new option in the future that would allow for storage space under the seating area. We told them this would be priceless!!
Another thing to consider is we did use a solar suitcase style panel , in addition to the one on our roof , the whole trip. The time of year etc .. the one on the roof just didn’t cut it. It was nice to have the ability to move the panel around and angle to the sun.

After exploring the Sierra de la Laguna area for a couple days, and our wonderful stay at the waterfall, the ocean was calling us back. We drove from Los Barriles towards La Ventana on the dirt coastal road and man was it stunning, so many beautiful homes overlooking the ocean. We use iOverlander lots to help find our camp spots; this one took a bit of searching and some tight dirt tracks but we found our favourite camp spot (so far). It had obviously been used lots and we had to clean up a bit of plastic (which we try to do wherever we are) but then it was our little slice of paradise for 5 days. We saw one person the whole time.. think he was looking for his cows. We even took the time to make a little outdoor rock shower spa area.. it was so peaceful out there all alone.
We’re so glad we brought our binoculars because we spent hours here watching the mobula rays jumping and smacking back into the water, there must have been hundreds of them. When the ocean was flat calm we took the chance to practice our free diving a bit. We would have stayed longer but we ran out of water.. so it was time to move on ?
