# 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor
# SD/SDHC cards
# Larger viewfinder
# Live view mode, including contrast-detect AF
# Improved 9-point AF system
# Spot metering
# 3.0" LCD monitor
# Redesigned menus (including My Menu as seen in 40D)
# Slightly redesigned info display
# Continuous shooting at 3.5fps for up to 53 JPEG (6 RAW)
# ISO setting displays in viewfinder and ISO button
# New, larger, higher capacity battery
# 14 bit A/D converter and processing
# Multi-shot self-timer mode
# Highlight Tone Priority (from 40D)
# Auto Lighting Optimiser (boosts shadows after shooting)
# Redesigned battery grip (BG-E5)
I particularly dig the memory format change to SD. My laptop has an SD slot right on the side - it makes moving photos super easy and I strongly prefer it with our point and shoots.
I also dig what I interpret as more options for in-camera processing. I'm not really one for post-processing. I would love to improve the keep/delete ratio out-of-camera.
Beefier battery is also a sell. Coming from point-and-shoots, the battery life in the XTi is exceptional in my opinion. I took three batteries on our four day WV trip and only ended up using one. Still, you gotta love more juice.
No interest in live view here. Sure, it'd come in handy at time when framing through the viewfinder is awkward, but you can't beat the photographic intimacy of a proper viewfinder.
