The replacement for the Canon S95 compact has been announced. It's named the S100, naturally enough. Canon have made significant upgrades to the S100, including a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor to replace the S95's CCD, new faster Digic 5 processor, new wider angle 5x lens (f/2.0 wide to f/5.9 tele), built-in GPS to tag your photos' locations, and 1080p video.

I've shot with a Canon Powershot SD870 IS for a number of years now, and I love that little camera. I've been on the lookout for an upgrade, but just haven't found the right one yet. I shot with a Canon S90 for a month, but in the end I found the "looseness" of the lens ring a distraction and the benefits of a higher f-stop lens lost in normal viewing angles. I'm a big fan of bokeh, and have yet to find a point and shoot that gives me any significant control of DoF. That's one of the reasons the old Pentax K100D still has a job to do.

I'll be following the S100 to see if it comes closer to my perfect camera. Looking forward to someone's hands on results with it.

Kinda interested in what the G13 turns out to be, too...
