About a week ago (16th of May) I got my hands on a friends project. A, soon to be, road legal SAS Hilux 1990. I've planned a few things to do, but first it has to be road legal, then afterwards more mods will come.

Through the 6-7 years he's been having it he has rust welded the frame, chassis and the bed, tacked new mounts for the stiff axle and got a certified workshop to lay down a few weld strings. In November 2012 the frame was approved by the Norwegian cars register office and a small office for modified cars (about only 50 cars a year tells you how conservative the norwegian laws for modifying cars are). As for now the truck has to be put together as close to original, except the Stiff Axle Swap.

Because of the pricetag, and lift, new leaf springs, 2" Old Man Emu with papers from Tüv has been fitted.

Early pictures

The truck was originally a 1990 LN110 with a lazy 2.4 litre, 2L diesel engine. It's supposed to stay as a diesel, but before i swap the engine out for more cubics i'd prefer to install a turbo. Just to let it breath better and ofc higher power output.

Previous owner started to take it apart, paint the frame, bed and cabin. The bed got also a layer of Raptor liner.

Picking up the pickup

Picked up the frame, engine and bed May 16th on an old Volvo N7-series, the cabin and all those small parts came home the week after. Had to mount rear axle and wheel before we pushed it out of the garage, rolling frame for first time after the swap.

As the truck is supposed to be stored a few months I've began to put it together and sort out parts. The parts list keeps getting longer and longer.

First the engine was put in place with the transmission. Had to take the tranny out again to mount flywheel and clutch disk, but inconvenience struck and im missing a bolt to the flywheel. Thought id be better off mounting the front diff without the tranny in. Close to no space issues, but better space is better space after all.

Called a friend over to help lift the cabin with his rear mounted crane. Tried first with 3-4 guys, but with the engine in place, it wasnt possible.

With the cabin in place, the work and wiring could finally begin. Since I have to wait for parts i thought id start removing sound deadening on the floors. Was great to remove lots of air pockets and old adhesive. Some day ill lay dynamat in the celing, on the walls and firewall, but unsure about the floor. Probably some kind of bedliner instead of a carpet i guess.

Never mind the rusted firewall as itll be removed while chopping space for larger tires.

The other day I began to fit the wiring loom in the engine bay. My ocd kicked in so changed the old loom to an other, unpainted one since it just was laying around. As i was in the right mood i did the alternator, steering and brake lines too. Not a hardcore update, but hang on.

Changed the valve cover as well. Ugh, fancy bling and paint isnt quite my style. Simple is better.

Rear end is almost complete. Had the birfields out to get the temporate LSD in as the lunchbox locker is getting new bearings. Brakelines, drums and driveline OK, but no e-brake yet.

Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot. My highly beloved, blue dashboard had to leave me for a grey one. A small step towards the greater path.

After a lovely, but hectic summer i've figured its time to brush off some dust on the truck.

The fuel lines has been fitted, but have a little problem routing the brakelines up front. Could anyone help me out with a few pictures detailing around knuckles and the lines inbetween?

Regarding transmission, the temporary one is on its way in.

Thank you a lot, but do you have pictures of the lines across the axle too? Have most of the brakelines in a pile (brand new), but it has been hard to lay them as toyodiy has deleted their schematics.

Seems like the second is a 60-serie.

They don't go across the axle. They go via hard line from the caliper up to a fitting, then to a rubber line up to the frame rail, then back to hard lines up to the master cylinder. I can take pictures of everything, if you like.
