Car won't start - valet / security issue?

I've been using the valet key and today I opened the passenger side door to flip through some CDs, shut that door then opened the back door to fool with the CD changer. Closed it and opened the drivers door, put the key in and turn and it wont turn over. No clicking, no flickering lights. The odd thing is that the front blinkers were blinking at regular intervals. This would happen for a few minutes then it would stop.

Am I completely nuts? Is there some security thing with the valet key? Or is my starter just kaput?

You probably tricked the security system. Open your door, press and hold the little red button on the left side of the steering wheel, (looks like a little light ). Simultaneously put your key in the ignition and try starting your engine. If it doesn't start try press and holding the button for longer before starting the engine.

This whole security system on this thing is kinda screwy. I'm gonna have a look at the FSM, but I think the little red button is missing a spring. It was all the way down, causing the door locks to go crazy when I would use the windshield washer, hit the brakes or change the suspension settings. Took the little plastic piece off and all seems fine...

Is there supposed to be a spring there?
