cargo area storage cover mods/ideas

I'm not sure if you're aware but the models that come with the subwoofer in the floor have a plastic cover that goes over the jack only. I have that cover on my current JK. I built a sleeping platform that covers the cubby completely and houses some camping gear. With my subwoofer removed it turns into a pretty spacious compartment. The box that I built is the same height as the rear seats folded which allowed me to wrap some plywood in carpet and use it for a sleeping platform.

Also what’s the orange cord for to the right in the pic?

I ripped the boards to 5", but I have a heavy rubber mat under them and I also had my factory carpet cover down there for a while. 5 1/4" would be better without the factory cover. I attached the boards with some screws and clamps using the factory tiedowns so I didn't have to modify the Jeep in any way. The cord goes across the back of the plywood boards I use to cover the seats when they're down. They rest against the seat backs when we're on the move. I bought some tie downs that attach to the mounting bolts of my top and the cord hooks to those.

Here’s a couple pictures that explain it better. I used really thin plywood for the top. It doesn’t flex because the storage box underneath has a brace in the middle and is built to shear in an accident. The front panels are 1/2” plywood. The first ones I had were plain old decking plywood but I’ve replaced them with birch now. I broke one of them last summer when I came down out of my Ursa Minor top. I guess it wasn’t tough enough to handle fat old me! The upholstery is just some cheap home dump carpet that I attached with spray adhesive and an arrow t-50 stapler. It was super cheap and has served us well. B8585230-22AB-44FA-90B0-3C17200BB54B.jpeg60F2A458-1530-4B20-AE48-413DCCD2E771.jpeg

Thank you for that info. Helps a ton.

Definitely in the planning phase now…
