Cargo or Passenger?

It is possible to limotint, insulate, and build over windows. It is possible to install windows in a cargo. Those are minor compared with AC, heat, RUST, or drivetrain rebuilds.

Find the drivetrain in the condition you want and then go from there.

Wow.

I thought I was pretty set in my ways when I asked the question, but now I am leaning a totally different direction. Thanks for all the information everyone. I am now leaning to the passenger van because keeping the family happy is priority and I like the idea of big windows and rear HVAC. Plus, in my search, I am finding more passenger vans with lower miles in good shape than I am cargo vans that have been abused.

Another thought: Has anyone converted a conversion van into a camper van? I like the larger windows. Just curious if it's an option, although there are not a lot of 1-ton conversion vans out there.

4X4TOUR: Do you have any pics of your interior? Would love to check it out...

I found a 1 ton conversion van, sort of.

The PO bought the seats out of a wrecked conversion van and put them in the 1 ton. He kept the original front buckets, then installed the 4 conversion buckets and sofabed in the back in about the same spacing as original. 9 passenger business-class seating without all the pressboard cr@p inside.

I use conversion vans to convert to campervans every now and again, they work out great.
This one was a Eclipse conversion I converted to a camper van, it is a e350 base.

Nice looking build Derek!

Was that a high-top van when you got it? If so, did you just gut the top and do your own interior and pop-up harware on it? Did you find that that particular van was insulated well from the conversion company?

I like it!

We have an EB conversion van done by Eclipse as well. I removed the rear bench/bed seat and installed wrap around limo seating. We also installed a removable table that folds down inside the horseshoe to create a bed. With 5 boys ranging from 5-13, it works out great for us. We still have he original captains chairs giving us seating for 11 if we should need it. Plenty of space on our frequent trips from NC to Fl or NC to CO. All the Windows make it great for the kids to see out and just pull the shades when they wanna sleep, allowing me to drive as long as I want.

Good luck.
