built this kinda off the google sketchup model I posted not to long ago. Made some changes for simplicity and cost savings

Upper platform is 44.5x35" and made out of 3/4" OSB. The "stringers" are made out of 2x8's cut at 35". the side "flap" is made out of 3/4" OSB and sits on top of 2 4" angle brackets that are screwed into the side of the structure. It is covered with grey indoor outdoor carpet from home depot

I had 3 problems during the build.
1.) I suck at upholstering things
2.) the 2 side flaps I planned on using didnt work out, after adding carpet they both wouldn't fit and the piano hinges wouldn't work. I ended up just scootching the unit over a little, using one flap, and having it just wedge in more or less and sit on top of the angle brackets.
3.) Lids for the tubs do not fit well in the space i left (again the carpet took up a little more room than i expected. I think access will be easier without the lids though anyways.

Heres the pictures

Closed (i still have to buy another container) and secured via bungie cords

Open (the unit actually holds onto the loaded drawer well, much better than expected)

Not bad, I'm thinking of going a similar route, I like you use of prefabbed drawers like that, much easier to build a "surround" than building slides/drawers/etc.

How well does your dog ride up there? I could extend mine into the back seat area and let the dogs "surf" up there, but I don't think that the missus would like that.

she hasn't ridden up there yet, when she came out in the garage, first thing she did was jump up there. Ill letcha know though if i take her for a ride anytime soon.

I used the plastic containers for 2 reasons

1.) Ease of installation/building the unit

2.) plug and play ability.

I am an intern for a civil engineering firm, and manage projects for a city. I always have a ton of blueprints, and other documents that i have to keep from getting ruined, but when the weekend comes, and i want to go camping, hunting, fishing ect, I can have other bins all loaded up, slide out the one with work crap, plug in the fun stuff, and head out.

The one side will always be in the car, and it will contain tools, recovery gear, hat/gloves/warm stuff during the winter, ratchet straps, and my trailer hitch/pin The other side will vary depending on where I am going and what I am doing.

I will be mounting my 1000 watt inverter, and a cig outlet under that side cover once i get paid.

How Tall Is the pup?? I'm wanting to try that in the back of my LJ, but To get much useful storage space I don't think mine can stand up.

not sure on the exact measurement, shes not that tall though (only about 6 months old.) The unit only comes up 8" off the floor, So just take a measurement of the back of your rig and see if you still have room.
