Cash for Clunkers

Been driving around here in Phoenix and notice a lot of XJ's being cashed in for clunker's. Spoke to a new dealer when my wifes car was being serviced and they had 3 XJ's cashed in last weekend in a locked area behind the lot. Boy would I love to get back there for some parts. I need some interior pieces. Another bi product of Government intervention- harder to get recycled parts. I figure we're doing our part for the environment when we go to a U Pull junk yard.

F that, I wouldn't trade in my Cherokee even if I had owned it for a year...What a crime to trash so many good parts for a vehicle that passes
stingy California smog tests and gets upwards of 20mpg.

Plus, its mine.

I don't owe anything on it and can completely do whatever I want to it with the money I WOULD be spending on a payment. My jeep was made to last, and don't know if I can say that about the cars in the price range I could afford to finance.

Oh, and, by the way, I hit a bale of hay today, doing ZERO damage to my rig. Couldn't move over far enough, quick enough.

I did, however, see three fuel-efficient vehicles on the side of the road, with smashed airdams, bent front crossmembers, busted steering racks, and likely compromised cooling systems.

I just don't get why someone would "trade in" a paid for , in running condition vehicle to go into debt for 5-7 years and pay higher ins. rates.
People confuse me sometimes...

Cash for Klunkers has the limit of $4500 set way too high. At say $2000 it might be tolerable. That said, I have a serious problem with the government (any government) subsidizing private vehicles. That is a tax payer and enviro-mentalist ( :) ) stance on my part.

This is going down a bad road, gentlemen. This is definitely a hot subject, but keep that kind of talk up, and this thread will become a clunker.

Maybe a mod should move this to the existing cash for clunkers thread where all of this has already been discussed at length.

I like the "Cash for Cluckers" bill proposed on the news by a senator.

He claimed the chicken industry in his state was suffering. And that we should pay people to eat Chicken!:costumed-smiley-007

There will be all kinds of unintended consequences with this program.
The lack of used parts & used car prices going up to name two.
I just don't see how this is constitutional, of course a lot of things
going on fall in to that category IMHO.
