Funny, I was just "building" a Grenadier yesterday. I went with a base model with the lockers and a few other additions (ladder and roof rack come to mind). I also chose the green because holy crap it looks beautiful. On the screen at least, haven't seen one in person in green. If I didn't have so much effort and money sunk into my Colorado it would sure be tempting....

The green with white top is awesome! I wish it had the Disco 1 green though...

I really liked the light blue when I test drove them at an off road park north of Atlanta last year - but the green with a white roof would be hard to resist. I have three friends with Grenadiers and another one is due to be delivered next month and they all love them.
I really like my 2020 Defender 110 P300 and I won't be pried away from my old Defender 90 Tdi but I was tempted by the Grenadier as well. I had a 1971 Porsche 911 that was about this color back in the early 1980's so it resonated with me.

It's funny you mention the Porsche because that was my very first comment when I saw the color! Gemini Blue, I believe.

The new Defenders are so nice, but what did it for me with the Grenadier was the more utilitarian design. I do with the Gren had some of the interior refinement of the Defender though...

The interior refinement of the 110 is what really keeps me from having a Grenadier on order right now. As we were driving home in my 110 from the demo ride both my passenger and I were thinking that it seemed a bit unrefined in comparison and being the grumpy old men that we are we were both wondering if we would be willing to spend that kind of money for a step down in comfort and refinement. My P300 has rubber floor mats, leather seats and all of the off road stuff - I have added rock sliders and BFG All Terrain tires but it's a superb daily driver and long road trip car. It reminds me a lot of my old LR3 and it's proven to be very, very good off road.

I remember being a bit disappointed with the rear cargo area and the exhaust hump.in the passenger floor (would it have killed them to design a special exhaust manifold that directed the pipe away from the passenger floor instead of using the stock BMW part?).

I do think it's a really cool vehicle and look forward to sharing some trails with them._X0I3943.jpg

My favorite Discovery 1 color is Caprice Blue, which was probably one of the rarest to come to the states. At first I thought i'd wrap or paint the truck that color, but at this stage I highly doubt that's going to happen. So instead, I think im going to add accents to get the vibe.

To kick that off, I picked up some particularly loud turquoise Maxtrax to mount to the rack. I think it adds a bit of pizzazz.

I used the Maxtrax flat rack mount, which turned out to be just perfect due to the numerous mounting locations and included hardware. The large channel nuts act as anchors on the underside of the rack flooring so the only thing I needed to make this work was longer bolts.

I still need to fix my brakes. The proportioning valve is leaking a little worse and the braking is nowhere near as good as it had been. Also very close to fitting the headliner; just deciding if there is anything left to do on the ceiling since everything is removed...

Long shot but would you be willing to sell the carpet from your blue D1? I've been looking for any carpet for ages.

Depends on how nice it is... I've been following you on IG for a while. I'm @defender.mouse

You're in CA and I'm in AL so shipping something like that might be kind of expensive. I made the mistake of tearing my carpet out years ago because of a leaky sunroof and I've been regretting it ever since.

Still here, but spending a lot less time with the Rover these days. I've got a baby on the way and now that the Land Cruiser is back in my hands, most of my little free time has been spent working on that.

However, I did manage to get some small things sorted on the vehicle in the past few weeks.

It took a while to figure out the best way to install my HAM radio, but I think tucking the unit under the passenger chair was the best possible place for it. Plenty of airflow and really nothing else under there since I removed the factory CD changer.

To mount it, I screwed the unit into a 1/4" piece of wood and then used double-sided tape to lock the thing to the ground. I placed SecondSkin down first so I had a flat, even surface to work with. On top, I put some extra Gorilla Tape to keep it held in place. I know this isn't ideal, but I didn't want to drill through the body again and I didn't have any adhesive spray on me. After some testing, i'd say this thing is going nowhere no matter how many hits this truck takes.

The wiring was straight forward, though I did blow a fuse by tapping into the CD Changer's power source. So instead of using that (it kept blowing), I just pulled the wire through the firewall and took it to the battery; ground is on the center tunnel under the seat.

Now, these radios usually have the speaker built into the unit. This one is particularly loud, but I didn't think it would break through the exhaust noise while wheeling so I looked for somewhere to install an external speaker. After a bit of trial and error, I found out that the Uniden BC20 Bearcat speaker is a nearly perfect fit for the center rear air vent. This requires you to remove the plastic ducting that carries the air above the headliner so I wouldn't recommend doing this if you plan on using the rear air feature. You will also need to get creative with zip ties to keep the unit nice and taught against the headliner; otherwise, it'll pop itself out over time.

So with a buddy and lots of curse words, we got the headliner from ol Blue (the parts truck) into Outono and installed the speaker. I think it looks pretty damn good.

To mount the HAM faceplate, I just used a RAM mount phone grip. Works a treat.

The other mount you see there is a new MAG charging QuadLock that I just love. Seriously so much better than my old RAM setup as it makes taking the phone off much quicker, as well as moving it into portrait mode. Highly recommend it even though it is $$$.

At this stage, all I need to do is finish installing the headliner, wrap up sound proofing the truck, and then install the RTE rear bumper when it arrives this summer. Oh, and I have some minor brake repairs, some new rubber seals, and new injectors to install. But after that, i'd call the truck more or less complete. And that's a good thing because with a baby arriving in August, I just don't foresee myself being able to take whole weekends to work on this truck anymore. Im not selling it so it'll have its day again, but things will inevitably slow down for the foreseeable future.

You're a HAM so you'll want/need another radio. This location on the transmission tunnel has been working for me:

And glad to hear you're keeping your truck. The Disco landscape seems awfully quiet sometimes.

Nice one! I thought about putting it there, but I dont like having something so close to my knee!

Agreed on the Disco community. Especially for D1, it's dead quiet. Nobody really talks about them and for accessories, almost nobody is willing to spend a fair price for product. Case in point, I still can't sell my Safety Devices rack after 6 months of trying. Its priced super competitively and in great condition. Yet, I see a D2 SD rack listed for sale today for $1,250 (almost double my price) and the guy got 3 offers in half a day. Insane!
