CB antenna mounting questions

Was wondering if I could get some feedback from you guys concerning a CB antenna install on my Montero. One which I pretty much need to buy parts and install tomorrow.

I've been reading up tonight on CB mounts and ground planes and such in hopes of understanding what I need for the Montero. So, my two favored mounting locations are on the rear door or on a hood mount. To me, the hood mount would provide the best grounding plane using an antenna like the Firestick, but it will be in harms way. If I did the rear door, I'm considering a 102" whip, but still concerned about the GP.

I do not want to use a magnetic or roof mount.

What would you guys think would be appropriate and most tune-ably acceptable? Any other suggestions? Parts, location, etc?

a Ball mount and spring on the side with a 102" whip would make a great antennas. After that a good NMO drilled/mounted antenna in the center of the roof.

A 108" whip should be the easiest to tune since it is a (nearly) perfect 1/4-wavelength for the middle of the CB band, but IMO a whip that long is cumbersome for wheeling in Texas where you commonly have a lot of trees.

For a shorter fiberglass antenna like the Firestik, the hood mount would definitely give you a better ground plane than the rear hatch, but if you want to use the rear hatch then just use an antenna that is more tolerant of lack of ground plane, like the Firestik "FireFly".

Hench the reason a spring is a must for any 102" whip. 102" whip plus a 6" spring... The magic 108" size... No one makes a 108" whip.. 102 plus a spring is the norm.
