CB install

Hey thought some of you might have run into this problem. I have a 2004 Dodge 4x4 2500, Looking for an install of my CB. I want to put it in the cab but the space is limited. I thought about making a bracket to attach in between the cup holder and seat. Looking for some ideas. It's a large CB but I want to minimize the damage done to the dash. One more question, what is a really good antenna? I was looking at the K40. Any suggestions?

The truck is close to 6 years old why worry about a couple of screw holes in the dash to hold a CB. A really good CB antenna is a 102 inch whip with a 6 inch spring., Second best is Anything that is not a temporary mount(magmount, vice grips). A good NMO mount in the center of the roof with a Lason 27-31 antenna will work great.

In my old full size truck I used some existing holes that were already under the dash near the bottom. Instead of messing up the dash or plastic I drilled holes in the bracket to match the existing holes in the dash. For an antenna I'd go whip. A Wilson lil wil or a wilson 1000. I was never happy with any fiberglass antennas and went through 3 before I got the wilsons.

I would caution anyone using velcro. The radio becomes a big flying missile in an accident. Also top of the dash in direct sunlight is not the best thing for a black case radio.

you have to use a pry bar to separate the Velcro. its not going anywhere.

i prep'd the area with grease remover and the glue is probably permanent. i have the whole surface area of the CB covered.

If the radio is too large maybe look into getting a smaller one. Some people seem to love the big giant ones but unless you have it tweaked go smaller. It'll be easier to mount and live around. My radio is DIN sized and is mounted in the dash under my stereo.

That cobra is nice and I was almost convinced on buying one when I was told about this midland...

With interchangeable bottoms (battery case or in car mount) I can use it both in my rig as a (psuedo) base unit and with its battery case also as a handheld CB on the trail. Plus my 2nd DIN slot is available as a cubby or for an eventual ham setup.
