CB mount question for '00 Tundra

I'm planning on doing my first upgrades to my '00 Tundra next weekend which I'm excited for. Right now the truck is bone stock other then an add a leaf on the rear which gives it a pretty impressive load carrying ability and my brake controller for pulling my car hauler. I've got a set of Hella Rallye 4000's, a new fiberglass ARE cap, new Thule rack system with gutters for the new cap, and am planning on installing a CB too. My question is related to where everyone is mounting CB's in the early Tundras. The only real place where there seems to be adequate room is under the center stack, but one half is the slide out ashtray (which I don't need) and the other half is the slide out cup holders (which I DO like). Seems like mounting it under the dash to the right of the steering wheel would intrude into knee room more then I'd like. I'm curious to hear what you guys have seen.

That's a great idea. I actually have a similar sized inverter that I wanted to used as well. I was thinking of just keeping it in the center console, but your solution is great. If I can't hardmount the cb somewhere out of the way, I'd definately want to be able to remove it easily when not needed. Thanks.

Do you already have a CB ready to go in?

If not and space is an issue, you might consider getting the Cobra 75WXST. The control box is about the size of a Snickers candy bar. The all in one handset can clip into a small space, like under your Hazard Flashers switch.

The curved center stack of the Tundra does make it a little more challenging though.

There's your answer in bold red, if you want it to approach a stock appearance. I have a picture of my mount in my "The evolution of Alpine Tundra" thread. It can be seen in the third photo in post #48, behind the Ham mic. I have a Midland unit purchased from Northern Tool for $40. In that picture, the front-mount microphone is not attached. It fit with just a smidge of trimming out the cigarette lighter. Eventually, I will sand myself a plug for the semi-circle left over on the left side where the cig-lighter was.

Here's a better picture of it in my dual battery install thread, post #6, the third pic.

I got to 2nd KCOW idea. I have one of those in my RV and quite a few of mu customers have them. Dont let the size fool you, it works just as well as any other larger size unit. Nice display, all the weather channels (a must) and other goodies. Nice thign about it, as you can mount the screw connection anywhere and simply unplug the whole thing and stick in the glove box or under the seat if you dont want it.

Something to consider as it would elimante almost all of your room/mounting issues.

Great info, thanks. I figured you'd have an interesting solution. Now to decide whether to go that route or what KC suggested which I like alot too.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

When I put the CB in there, I had to pull out the cigarette lighter, as you know. The neat thing, is that there is a wire back there to illuminate the ring around the cigarette lighter, which is not needed when you pull out the lighter. I have heard that you should run radio wires directly from the battery for best elimination of radio interference, but just for grins, I tried using that wire to power the CB. I have no interference whatsoever. No guarantees, though -- your results may vary.
