Chains on NBS Suburban Question

What do you Suburban owners do about chains. The manual says not to use them if you have a certain tire size or larger. I exceed their specified size with the 33" tires that are on there. I just leveled the truck with new keys but the back still has the stock z71 springs. Looks pretty tight. Do I just forgo chains? Do i get a set to carry in case I travel over passes that says chains required even if I will never use them? Do they actually check? I haven't actually used a pair since moving to the northwest 20 years ago. Last time I used them was in the Lake Tahoe area. What do the rest of you do? Thanks!

Here you go... Loosely, started back in the early 90's , burbs with oem tires had and apparently still do have clearence issues on the front, brake lines fender parts etc. So using chains on the front may and probably will void warranty. Z71 suburban forums is good information on this topic.
From what I see it's all about stock tires size.

If the state troopers tell you can't go any further without chains you're going to be stopped , end of discussion.

got to have enough clearance, got to keep them TIGHT. The square-ish wheel well openings dont help, when turning. You might want to trim some fender metal, especially if you've upsized the tires.

Are we talking the “for real deal” tire CHAINS, or those little cable things they hand out at Les Schwab? I’ve used those little guys before (same deal...state says use chains or get fined. Y’know, interfering with natural selection, all that good stuff haha), and while 31” tires on a Montero don’t present any clearance issues, I did notice that those little cable chains really hugged tight to the tire. No slinging loose bits of chain around, real easy to get tight.

They’re no real substitute for real chains when you really need real chains, but they may work for keeping the law off your back.

and extra rubber 'tighteners' are available fairly inexpensively, so you can lash down all the loose ends. Just have to keep the speeds down somewhat.
