Chainsaw box for roof rack

Has anyone come up with a locking box to hold a chainsaw on the roof rack? I already have a axe and trauma kit mounted on the lift gate but would like a chainsaw to carry on the trail.

Why does it have to be a locking box? A lot of Still/Husquvarna saws come with a great case, which can be strapped down to the roof. I wouldn't be to worried about theft on the trail. IF in town pull the saw off and stick it in the bed.

The case on one of my stihls has a little place to put a padlock. The other case got stolen. Some guy took off running with it but was too dumb to realize their wasn't a chainsaw inside.
The major upside to a different case is that not everyone knows you have a chainsaw on your roof.

We carry our saws in soft shell bags. You can run a bicycle lock through the Saw handle and the zipper if you are worried about security. But the bags offer various mounting configurations to racks and spare tires, hold your oils and tools, and provide quick easy access to the Saw. It’s also super handy to carry the Saw if you go out to collect fire wood or simply work in the woods running a Saw.

I have a roof basket that I was going to bolt the case to. Right now my spare tire is up there until I get a bumper built. That said anything outside of the vehical must be locked around here (I have even had my 11m whip stollen)

The neat thing about this bag tho is that you don’t need to mount it until you hit the trails. The mounting straps stay on the tire or rack. The bag hooks into them within seconds.

That's great! Do you have a link to purchasing that bag or a brand name on it? Thank you in advance! Just what I am looking for. Cheers

An end loading weather tight box would be perfect. Something that can allow you access your saw relatively quickly. A box which we could mount to to our rack from the inside and one which could store some gas and oil, lockable. Anyone up for the challenge?

Ability to put saw away hot is nice and saves time. We had one, was called the back of the pick up. Only set it on fire once but that was blamed on the sister lol.

LOL. Its always good to blame a sibling. Good point on a hot saw and stowage. I need to give this more thought. I was planning on a metal box, need to give added consideration to separate storage of gasoline.
