Chainsaw box for roof rack

Hot saw?

I stoped worrying about that when I went to a makita 36 volt saw.

For storage I take the bar off. The bar and chain are stored in the scabbard and the whole thing is in a duffle bag. A quart of bar oil is stored with the vehicle fluids

This ^^^ The world has moved on from needing to carry a 20" bar gasoline saw, unless of course you are doing serious trail maintenance. My wife and I got through a pine with about a 24" diameter across a trail last year with our little 18V 12" Kobalt saw......which I'll soon be replacing with this:

A winch is something more of us are likely to have and you can usually pull a tree out of your way if it's bigger.

I love hot saws

But yes, being able to load a saw while it is hot is a great time saver, maybe a safety factor too.
I store mine on a plank in the Jeep but I'd do the same on the roof plus a tie down strap and maybe a cable and padlock thru the handle. I'd only store it in the open, not in a box.
