Changed both air bags on Disco II

Big D

Observer
Just recently changed both air bags on my Disco as they were leaking from age. I could not believe how easy it is to change them. 5 minutes! Not even! You don't even have to take the wheel off!

It was easy for me to change them as they were leaking but how would you bleed the system if you wanted to add a spacer in?

With the vehicle off the compressor will not run to fill the system.
To install the spacer - Disconnect the existing bag, the air pressure will escape, attached the spacer which clips into the bottom of the airbag, then install the bag-spacer combo just like you did the bag alone. Reconnect the air hose, turn the vehicle on and the system will fill itself.

Note - You may need to adjust the ride height contol arms to indicate when the vehicle is level.

Shameless Plug -- I have a set of spacers for sale along with four air bags if you are interested. :)

Brian

errr...this is how I always did this.

take the cover off the compressor and disconnect (well just loosen, you'll hear the air coming out) the outer two lines, its a 10mm nut...these two lines go to the air bags. The ***** end of the truck will drop due to the air coming out. Jack up the rear, push the decompressed bag up into the perch, install the spacers on the seats (you'll need an airbag spacer that will allow the bag to "lock", or twist, into the spacer just like it does on the seat), re-tighten the hoses on the compressor and turn on the car to let it air up the bags. You will have to have the doors closed or it won't let the compressor come on...I just had the window down and started it up standing next to it. I really don't think you could get a wrench up in there to disconnect the line on the airbag end to let the air out.

edit: dur you know how to do the bags, just unscrew the outer two hoses on the compressor, not the middle one.

If you get the spacers from RTE they have very detailed instructions with pictures...could always email them and see if they can send pdf to you.
