Chaser Trailer Kitchen Setup?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a Chaser trailer this summer (for a Fall trip from Montreal to Florida for some diving). The Horizon trailer would be nice, but we'll also haul this trailer through some tight off-road trails in the future, so the Chaser will definitely be better for this. The downside is the kitchen setup won't be as quick-n-easy. So, I'm curious.... What are you guys with Chaser trailers doing for a kitchen setup?

Thanks,
js.

I don't have an answer/example for you but you have brought to the fore one of the advantages of the Horizon; a 'kitchen' on one side.

But why do you say the Chaser is better than the Horizon for tough trails? I believe the Horizon is shorter, which can be an advantage at times.

I have a Chaser and on our recent Death Valley trip I was really admiring Green Ganesha’s Campa kitchen in the rear of his trailer.

And this James is were you insert one, just one of the million photos you took of the Campa.

My wife and I are used to canoe-camping. We're well equipped for it, but when I see something like this... well... it's a shock. :)

To me the Chaser was a good platform to haul a tent, some spares, tools, fridge, welder, fuel, etc. I'm also planning a trip to northern Quebec that will be pretty intense - although I haven't talked about it here yet for fear that folks would think I'm nuts. :)

I was leaning towards the Chaser because it's narrower. When you're making your way through narrow forested trails, narrow is good (then again, I drive a JK Unlimi. which is a little wide). :) If I lived down on the west coast, I might consider the Horizon trailer instead.

So... considering the minimalist approach to the Chaser, what are folks doing for a kitchen setup? I would guess the kitchen table is at the heart of any good setup. So, what are the preferred tables, and how do you stow it? I would imagine that rear tailgate must come in handy...

Thanks,
js.

I really like Gear's simple wood 'table' he sits on his passenger side fender to use as his work platform, maybe he will see this thread and post a pic.

Slightly off topic, in the sense that my camp kitchen is in my '46 Bantam T3-C trailer and not in a Horizon or Chaser, but it may give you some ideas if you go a different route with your anticipated trailer purchase:

We just bought a Chaser and have yet to use it but I have been going over the kitchen thing for a while. I have kept it pretty simple. It is made up of the following: Campmate chuck box, coleman stove stand, folding 24"x24" aluminum table, 8 gallon action packer, Genius Table 24"x48" , Waeco 50 qut fridge and a 10' E-Z Up canopy. Everything fits inside the Chaser with the exception of the canopy which goes on the trailer tongue in between the water tank and the battery box.

Campmate Box, holds the stove (during transport), utensils, pots, spices, other odds and ends. The coleman stove is set up on a stove stand when in use, allowing the top of the Campmate to be used as a prep surface with a cutting board. I set the camp mate up on a folding aluminum table. The Genius Table is used for eating at. The Genius Tables are awesome. Very light weight and portable, cut resistant top that can withstand 400 degree temps. The action packer holds dry goods and the fridge holds other food and drink items. The whole thing sets up in just a few minutes and is all covered by a 10' E-Z Up canopy with two side walls for added wind/rain protection.

Where does one buy a "Genius" brand table? Most of the folding tables I've found at local camping supply outlets are junk.

Sportsmans Warehouse carries them. The 48" table is around $40.

Unfortunately, the closest Sportsmans Warehouse is 400 miles from me. :(

Anyone know who might retail Genius brand tables in SoCal, preferably Orange County?

Cool, we were thinking we might want a bigger table to put our stove, boxes, etc. on when unpacking the Chaser. Sportsmans is close so I will have to try them.

AT has a new kitchen shelf for the Chaser. It is made from Baltic Birch and it is 20"W X 50"L X 1/2"H. The shelf locks in place between the fender and the flare of the box, two location pins on the fender stop it from moving out of position.

The edges are routered and the corners rounded. It is finished with polyurethane. Price is $80.00
