Chevy Silverado Camp Rig

Hey folks, I thought I would finally post a few pics of my 2010 Silverado. I refer to it as a "camp rig" because it was built to get me there - off the beaten path, set up camp and enjoy the great outdoors. You can follow me this summer as a travel across the Great Lakes region, Canadian Rockies, to British Columbia. From there I'm sure which direction I'll take.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't had any issues with my approach of departure angle, then again I haven't been sny extreme situations yet either.
The hood had been taped and painted to reduce glare.
Check out the list of mods on my website - www.overlandquest.com

Did you guys check out my website yet? http://www.overlandquest.com/
I listed most of the mods there....

but here is a quick run down:

Bumpers – Ranch Hand Summit Bullnose Front and Sport back bumper. Chosen because of their lighter weight, durability, practical use- I wanted tough bumpers that I could stand on, mount accessories, and doze over road debris.

Winch - Smittybilt XRC 10,000 mounted on receiver cradle.

Side steps – 3” aluminum tubing, 3M non-skid tape, mounted on the stock mounting brackets. Good to have the lighter weight and full length reach the camper top.

Fender flares – Bushwacker extend-a-fender, I originally went with the OE flares then switched to these. They keep a lot more road debris off the truck.

Tail light guards – Garage Pro ¾” tube style guards which fasten via a pathetic weak method. A good base to tie them into a stronger mount

Roof rack – a low mount rack measuring only 4.5”. This is a carryover from my Avalanche but is now mounted on Thule roof mounts. The roof racks is a great place to store fire wood and wet gear.

Rear step – Bully swing away hitch step to ease access to the camper.

Blacked out hood paint- flat black enamel sprayed on to reduce glare from the silver hood.

Front fog lights – 6” Hella fog lamps wired into the existing fog lamp circuit (stock switch operates all forward ****** lamps).

Side lights – 4” tractor lights aimed at road side to aid in negotiating corners, finding camp sites, ect.

Rear lights – switch operated general lighting for camp use.

Tires/wheels – LT285/ 70 R17 Nitto Terra Grabber All Terrain tires mounted on stock GM rims.

A.R.E - Deluxe Commercial Unit, all aluminum construction, 6” over cab height
Roof rack – factory ladder rack with additional 1” cross bars

Kayak cradles – Yakima Landshark Saddles

Equipment mounting – Vehicle recovery tools

Dome vent – Fantastic roof vent.

Side window – passenger side full length tinted sliding window with screen.

Tool box – Drivers side door tool box, led lighting

Water source – 11 gallons stored in (2) 20 liter Scepter military water cans

Swing away mount – 5# propane tank, equipment box, and stove shelf

Shower nossel – Flojet 1.3 gpm on demand 12v pump, 15” hose with garden attachment for shower and clean up.

Front sliding window – reversed lock to inside.

Lighting – Amber rear 12v porch light.

Thats a great looking rig, I've been contemplating getting a topper like that or roof rack to carry my canoe or kayaks.

Hey Jimmi if you are in B.C. this summer then please let me know. I can share a cold one with you and also let you know about cook kayak places, among other things. Cheers, Chilli...:)

The cap is an ARE deluxe commercial unit 6" over cab height. I ordered it with the half tool box on the drivers side and sliding window on the passengers side & front. I also ordered the ladder rack to mount my boat.
I added three more 1" crossbars that fit Thule products just fine. Inside I ran 12 volt from the auxiliary battery to a junction box. There I split to a fuse box and power port. I also use a 12 volt converter that I can run and extension cord to for shore power. I used LED lighting throughout (camper, toolbox and rear exterior door. I also added wire shelving for my clothes, ect. I built a floor cabinet for odd items that don't get used often. I use the top of it for storage also. This gives me enough room for the 3'x6' folding gym Matt that I sleep on (can fit two). I cut a hole in the top and mounted a Fantastic roof vent. It is wired for intake and exhaust.
If I were to do it again I would get a single door so I would have more mountable space on the exterior. But this really fits my needs to be stealthy, fit in wherever I go, low enough to mount the kayak, and provides a quick easy sleeping arrangement.
Any other questions pleas ask.
