Chevy Suburban/Tahoe (2001-06) VS Toyota Sequoia (2001-06)

In the market for a new (to me) vehicle! Pretty much have it narrowed down to these two platforms, can you guys help convince me otherwise one way or the other?!

I won't do any extreme overlanding as that isn't in the cards for my family, we have a 5 month old at home with no time, so that isn't a huge concern. I will, however, take it camping, fishing all over the Ozarks, hunting waterfowl, pulling a small Towee river skiff, a kayak trailer, and miscellaneous other activities. Will more than likely take the 3rd row out of whatever I go with in favor of some kind of drawer system in the back!

Thanks!

These two are good competitors in my mind. The Seqouia is definitely bigger, and has easier to access 2nd and 3rd row seating with the larger rear doors. Power/towing/payload is similar enough that its all moot. Seqouia wins in the front suspension department with a coilover as opposed to the Tahoe's torsion bar setup as far as lifting and upgradeability goes. Tahoe wins with parts availability if you do suffer an odd break down somewhere, and its also going to be cheaper to purchase and cheaper over it's life for regular maintenance. Both are pretty dang reliable 300k+ vehicles with good maintenance, Sequoia's 4.7 is a timing belt motor though, so keep that in mind. Tahoe will get a little better MPG, spring for the 06-07 Sequoia with the 5 speed trans and VVT-i whatever. I like the seating position in the Sequoia better, and I like that it's body is higher up than the GM stuff from the factory. Rust finds the frame in the Sequioas, and brake lines and body panels in the Tahoe.

Pick your poison. Can't go wrong with either IMHO.

I had the same dilemma, until I found an 1 owner 03 suburban for $3500, I'm a Toyota guy, and it really hurt my pride with the suburban, but all in all I'm happy with the purchase.......with three kids the suburban is kind of tight if you can imagine that, I'm used to a minivan so about the only thing with more kid room would be a full-size van. The suburban does have more inside space for my fishing gear, I also wonder the Ozarks and my last trip to Mt. Grove area from SEMO got 18MPG....not bad...
