Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in Wyoming

We've been in Wyoming for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo which is billed as the Largest Outdoor Rodeo in the World. This place is everything Western and where REAL Cowboys show us normal men what it was like to live in the West at an earlier time.

I've been working on my images for like 10 hours now. That's the only bad part of spending 3 full days of shooting an event. I have over 29gigs of images to sort through and when you love the sport so much, it's hard to pick only a few out of the literally thousands of images we have from this event.

Here are a few from the Bronco Riding that stood out from my first few days of shooting. I'm sure I'll have more, as we are headed back out today for more Rodeo action

My back hurts every time I look at these pictures. I think I was munching on pain killers last night just from editing these.

So do you understand now why it is so hard to pick only a few images to post? And this is just from the Bronco Riders and only the first day! I've got hundreds more from the 2nd and 3rd day and like I said, we're headed back out again today Jeesh, my shutter finger is starting to hurt just thinking about it

When I worked in Chugwater, Wyoming my friends and I worked the rodeo in Cheyenne. Absolutly aweswome event, and myself being a bull rider and steer wrestler, it is really something to see! Did you ever get any other pictures done and ready to be posted? Great pictures and beautiful work!! :victory:

Watching rodeo's is never easy..I spend most of my time cringing or wincing from the falls that some of these guys take.

Fantastic pictures though, really like the first one. Was there barrel racing?

This guy had his hand stuck in the rigging and went for a pretty nasty ride long after his 8 seconds was up

For those who have been, you know how cool this event is, for those who havent, it's way worth the trip. You could make this a vacation of itself there is so much to do around Cheyenne and it's proximity to so many attractions

Thanks for the comments

Love having fun 😊 in the 🌞 by the ⛵ and the ⏳
Most excellent shots! Obviously a pro!

You might try the Calgary Stampede one year, supposedly has the largest purse of >$1M. 10+ professional events attended by world champions in each event, > 1M attendees, 120 yr history, the list goes on.

Awesome pics! Rodeo is such a great venue to get cool shots. My wife is a rodeo and horseshow photographer as well.

Just looked at your galleries. Nice work. What do you shoot with?

Thanks for the props CanuckMariner and Tom, we're shooting with Canon bodies, either a 5D or a 30D, and a host of lenses that will get us tight on the action.

Cindy, my wife almost always uses a 28-300L IS f/3.5-5.6 lens, as its so versatle, and I swap between a 70-200 IS f/2.8 or a 400 IS f/2.8

When you look at the galleries, if you mouse over the photos, there will be a little button that pops up that will say 'Photo Info' and it will give you all the settings and lens info for every shot if you're interested.

Thanks for the heads up on the Calgary Stampede, we really want to check that out one year. I've heard so much about it and how fun it is to shoot.

Thanks again for the compliments!
