Let me start this off by saying, I am in no way shape or form a great wood worker! I have done a little hear and there, and the only thing close to this I have done is build a wooden paddle for my SUP.
Like many of you I am constantly looking to be a little more organized and cut down on set up time once I arrive at camp. Up until this point, (for the past 5 or so years) I have been using a black tupperware container that has worked relatively well. Unfortunately, after finding the chuck box thread and seeing everyone else's storage ideas, I decided mine needed to be updated. I also got sick of having to dig through the box to the bottom just to find something!
First I sketched and sketched until I found a design that would suit what I currently had and what I was planning on purchasing (which wasn't much!) the Over all size is 26"Wx17"Dx22"T. On the inside you will see that I have a total of 3 levels measured to meet various equipment sizes etc. No need to bore you with a whole bunch of numbers!

I probably measured everything 3 or 4 times just to make sure I had it right before I cut once! As you can see I have no saw horses so I used the good ole' tailgate to solve that problem! Unfortunately it makes a mess, well the sanding did more than the actual sawing, but who cares!!

General mock up went fairly well, I guess no matter how many times I measured, I still managed to fudge a little hear and there, one shelf was slightly to big and the other slightly too small! No one will ever know, except you can kinda tell the unevenness in the final product! All that matters is I am happy though!

As you can see I did a dark stain with Minwax and then coated it with Helmsman Spar to seal it from the elements. The finish turned out great, really looks sharp. I will say this, the hinges are no longer in the same place, couldn't seem to get it to open and shut with that placement, again lack of wood working skills I guess!:sombrero:
The final product will be in the next post down, I have since put in a couple of tupperware's to organize it a little better. Overall I am very happy with it, although it is a little heavy, it is ver functional and will be something I can hopefully pass down to my son when he is old enough!
