The -30 degree and 10 pounds each seems to be overkill for my part of the country. I Have been out hunting when the temps get down to 0 degrees and have a -15 Sportsman's Guide sleeping bag. I have woken up sweating in this bag, had to turn off the heater and throw back the top cover of the bag to get some good sleep. I am looking at some Eureka compact bags that are on sale at Cabela's right now, but am having a hard time justifying paying $70 for each when I can wait to get some at the next REI garage sale.

Paid about $70 to $80 for it at a locally owned sports shop. I like to support the local guys and don't mind paying a little extra when I can to keep them around.

Can you enlighten me with your opinion of the Eureka compact bags? I am not opposed to spending money at Cabelas but want to get a good product for the money.

I haven't tested the bag in extreme cold, maybe 40 degrees, but it seems to really trap your body heat, so i expect it would keep you warm. It packs down to a 1 and a half Folgers coffee can size, with the compression sack, which i wanted for doing overnight camping on the river. so far i like the bag.

Nice thread.. I am looking for a nice cold weather bag for the back of my truck.. and these two look to be nice bags to use.

While not a great Winter bag, I think they will do fine for the intended purpose. I figure for the price $43 I cannot go wrong.
