Coleman 12v Cooler

I would really like an Engle or some other fancy 12v cooler, but money says maybe never. Anyone have experience with these units from Coleman?

I got one at a garasge sale for $20.00.
I usually put a couple of frozen water bottles at the bottom and it stays cool enough for mayo on a day trip.
Its definitly not an Engle or ARB.
I see them for sale used on local classified adds all the time.

I bought one before I went to Iraq. It takes FOREVER to cool down to cooler temperature, but once there, it does OK. major power hog, needs about 60W. I would pass on it for camping.

I'm not sure I followed you there.....So on it's own it's not good enough for mayo, but with frozen water bottles it is?

Right now I use dry ice and I'm just looking for something more convenient for those long trips.

I know they are designed as coolers, not freezers. The web site states that they keep items 40 degrees cooler than the surrounding air. So if it's 90 degrees out, then it's probably at least 70-75 in your car (with the A/C on), therefore the cooler is at 30-35, which is about the same as a home fridge.
