Columbus Winter Hood. Worth it??

Hey guys, heading to the Utah back country for a few day this coming Thanksgiving. Just picked up a new to us Columbus RTT and was wondering if the winter hood is worth the cost or is really needed.

I thought of getting one, but never really got around pulling the trigger...
Instead we got -20°F synthetic sleeping bags for winter travels... these stay up there full time.

That was my first thought. But I can't stand mummy bags, having my feet all bound up drives me up the wall :)

The plan for a sleeping set up is flannel sheets, down comforter and my Grandmothers old Pendleton wool blanket. I'm thinking the confined space of the Columbus will retain a lot of heat.

$299 is a bit expensive.

Yes, the Columbus retains a lot of heat specially with two people up there.
Be careful to not retain too much heat as this will create condensation.
Ventilation is your friend........
even better one of this.....

I would recommend getting what they call the "anti-condensation mat" before you think about a winter hood. It lifts the mattress above the base adding ventilation and insulation. I've found it much more comfortable when you go below freezing with a Columbus. Yes, it is expensive, I think I paid something like $150 but the one Autohome has is made in Germany and really good, acts like a boxspring, adds a nice little cushion. I don't know much about the ones that are sold for other roof tents but I have seen some used on sailboats, not nearly as good.

Can't comment on the winter hood for the Columbus. I know that the one for the Maggiolina is good but the outer fabric of this tent isn't as windproof. In high winds, you can actually feel air coming through so the winter hood stops that.
