Until I've saved up enough for a nice fridge, I'll make do with:

- ice in the cooler... However, the big drawback is all that water making a mess of things ...

- dry-ice, I've used on longer outings. Performs micely but emits gas so you can't seal the cooler lid ...

- Techni-ICE ™ Dry Ice Packs seem to be a viable alternative to ice and dry-ice. The HDR-regular are inexpensive and seem durable ...

We've used them for a couple of years. They work pretty well as a replacement for ice.

You can cut the sheets of Techni-ice into various sized squares to facilitate packing of food items.

They seem to last as long as regular ice without getting your food waterlogged.

one caveat however: The sheets of Techni-ice have a slimy coating when they start to thaw out that gets on your hands.....our soultion to that was to encase tham in vacuum sealed food saver bags. Now they work like a charm!
