Compact truck camper prototype

almost finished prototype truck camper with a different bed layout, what do you think?

I have seen too many over-cab bed layouts, but these over-cab layouts so lack sitting-up head space that they are completely claustrophobic.

Inspired by the ever-popular European camper van twin single beds layout, I solved the claustrophobic dilemma, now not only do you have tons of headroom, you don't have to disturb your partner when you want to get up early.

since it's a prototype, specs are not finalized yet, but it weighs 950 lbs so it should fit any mid-size truck such as Tacoma all the way to a full-size truck.

finally took off those ugly jacks, drove out to the beach, and then drove to Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area.

tested on tight trails, the tree branch brushed against the aluminum body panel on the camper, afterward checked out the panel and noticed zero scratches at all. those panels are good quality.

How is it held in?

four(4) ratchet straps tie down, each strap has 1100lb working load and 3300lb breaking strength, there are four of them should be enough redundancy

the camper weights only 950lb, I check the straps for tightness every now and then, and the straps are staying taut so far

Agree with vertical concept without cab over. Can build lighter without the burden of reinforcement just for large cantilever of cab over. Nice work

Great job, simple, efficient and roomy.
Now, devise a fold down back patio and steps for the elderly.:D

yes, thanks for the suggestion, that could be the next project to add a step. Meanwhile, there are lots of portable steps to choose from, my guess people will have choices to choose from.

and the one other benefit of a truck camper is towing ability, truck camper can tow another trailer that carries side-by-side and other toys. In my case, I also can tow Alpacamper offroad trailer, sorry about the sag suspension, I am getting a pair of airbag helpers soon to level it out. Without a trailer, the truck was fine, but with the trailer, the rear of the truck dipped 1 1/2 inch.

the gap between the top of the truck cab and the camper is meant for the roof rack. and yes I am aware the color did not match, prehaps i need a color wrap.PSX_20221126_234952.jpg
