In my searching, this is what I have found:
ORS did buy out Con-Ferr, and their defender racks are similar to the Con-Ferr. However, the Defender series uses round tubes and the Con-Ferr racks were square tubing so the Defender accessory mounts will not work on the Con-Ferr racks. However, the mounts to attach the racks to the vehicle are interchangeable.
For mounting, diamondrax
http://www.diamondrax.com/heavy-duty-rain-gutter-clamps.html offers the mounts and they will work with their racks and with the Con-Ferr racks.
Now, I have to decide how I want to mount the rack to my 84 4runner and my 03 Tacoma. I know that I want the rack mounted on my roof on my Taco, not the campershell because the shell is higher than the cab and I would rather keep it more centrally located. It looks like Yakima q towers are the way to go, or doing a permanent mount with old style Con-Ferr brackets, but I don't think I would like how it would look without the rack attached.
For the 4runner, I am getting mixed info on using the rain gutter mounts on the topper. Diamondrax has a very beefy mount, but it might be too much for the fiberglass shell. Anyone mount their rack on their 4runner shell? experiences?
